A new record will be born here. I have a habit of going to DLR only every 8 months, but over time, I made a promise to DH that we would slow down for a bit, and go every 1 1/2 years
Shortly after that promise, I was in a bad car accident, several surgeries later, and several years later, we made it back there in September, for my birthday, it was an awesome time, and we realized then, that we both had missed DLR and all things Anaheim, sooooo much.
Before our trip even happened, we had already started planning a group trip for June 2011 (and by the way, if any Dis'ers want in on that group trip, just send me a message, Tink91 says she is in so far, as well as about 20 other random people I know
). We came back from our September trip, both having Disney withdrawals, and all we can talk about is our next trip (I'm sure most people on these boards can relate). Cold weather sets in, and all we can talk about is Anaheim, and the gorgeous weather (yes, we both have Anaheim weather set on our iphones).
Soooo, as it goes, my DH's birthday is in January, and of course we also have Christmas to deal with. Now, he is hard to buy for, he really doesn't have much in the way of hobbies, he works long hours, and he tries to get some R&R in there at some point. So, every year, I ask him to give me some ideas of what he would like for gifts. Every year, including this one, he asked for the same thing.....nothing. He says he doesn't really want anything
, sooooo, I told him that nothing is no longer an acceptable answer, and that he has to ask for something. He finally says fine....get me tickets to an Anaheim Ducks game (meaning in Vancouver), and so I asked, in Vancouver right? He replied sarcastically....."No, a Ducks home game."
Oh boy, he started it! He left for work a few minutes after this conversation, and my mother came over, so I told her what he has said, and I then told her that I was really thinking of flying him down for a quick trip, and asked her to please talk me out of it, as a mother should. Well, my mother is just as bad as I am, so she says......"do it!" Then she tells me that as a Christmas gift to me and a birthday/Christmas gift to DH, that her and my dad would give us a bit of $$$ towards the airfare.
That said, I ran with this idea, and from beginning to end, had everything planned in one week exact. I ordered the Ducks tickets, we are sitting almost where we sat at the last game, about 6 rows back from the ice, a Happy birthday message will appear on the scoreboard for DH from me, and the managers of the team have our seat #'s again, and sent me an e-mail saying "see you at the game, so I think they might do something for DH's birthday like they did for mine.
The plans go as follows:
We leave Victoria bright and early on Jan. 19th, and fly to Seattle and then LAX, arriving at 10:40 am. Off to Anaheim, check in our luggage, and maybe to the Ducks team store, before heading over to DL for a few hours or so. The game is at 7 PM, so will head out of the parks about 5:30 PM.
Jan. 20th, spend the entire day in the parks, hopefully holding off for a late dinner, might do Goofy's kitchen for dinner (am hoping Tink91 and her BF will be there, if so, I might call for a cake).
Jan. 21st - travel home
DH has no idea of any of this yet, he will probably work at Christmas, which means he will get his gifts on the 23rd. I am doing the hockey tickets as his birthday gift, make him sweat this out for the day of the 23rd. I am making an advent calendar called "the 12 days of Christmas until your birthday gift", with 11 clues to open every day, the 12th day being his hockey tickets. The, he will wonder for most of the day how the heck he is getting there, and still no idea of doing DL
Later that day, we will head to my parents place, where we will first give him the gift of the plane tickets, still nothing else though. The day will go on, and he will think that is it. Closer to dinner, I will say...."oh ya, I almost forgot, one more gift, silly me, it's small, and it got forgotten." That is when he gets the voucher book with the hotel, bus transfer and park hoppers. Ooooh, I am cruel.
