I look forward all year to our December Disney trip and this year we are taking ds's best friend. I am even more excited because his friend has never been to Disney nor been on an airplane. Now I have this bomb dropped....My husband is an airpline captain for ATA Airlines and his company is in financial peril now and we have no idea if he will even be employed by December. Our vacation is already paid for but it's hard for both of us to be excited about the trip.
I am sure most of you are not familar with how the airline industry works but it is all seniority based. There are not any major airlines hiring if he does lose his job and when he does get hired it will be like starting his career over making $20,000 a year.
We just bought a house last year, we planned to undergo IVF later this year to have a biological child and now our entire life could change.
The problem is the airlines are in a price war and they are not even covering their fuel costs. It's all about who has the most reserve and eliminating the competition. Southwest heavily competes with ATA and is trying to put them out of business.
So I encourage you, fly your airline of choice even if it is $10 extra RT. Southwest or the other "low-cost" carriers will not be so cheap next year when they eliminate the competition.
Enough about that!! Thanks for letting me vent and I hope we are worrying for nothing. I would like to see all the airline families get thru this crunch! Why can't we all just co-exist!!!!
I hope everyone enjoy's their upcoming trips!
