DH made redundant today :(

I'm in complete shock! I don't know what to do. I can't concentrate or think straight. This very same thing happened almost exactly 2 years ago and I never wanted to experience it ever again and here we are. I don't want to tell the kids because they worry and I don't want them to feel insecure. I feel so sad and helpless

Hi, sorry, it means his services are no longer required at his place of work. He lost his job basically.

I'm sorry my DH was laid off on Jan 5th and he's still looking. He's had enough side work to keep us afloat, but it's all so unstable, it stinks.

Now that that is out of the way. It is obvious that today's business terminology has so very little to do with reality that it is sad.

Redundancy...really! What exactly does that mean. Was he cloned and only one of him could stay on. Why wasn't the other person rendered redundant instead of him...takes at least two to make a redundancy doesn't it? I've been fired, laid off, victim of business closings, but Redundant? Can't recall that. I would rather be fired then redundant. That sounds so...so...permanent.

OK, enough ranting...I guess it doesn't matter what one calls it...it sucks. Can't we, at least, put in words that make sense?

I didn't read that at all. It sounded like the writer was mocking the way businesses try to use a lot of silly words when they are letting someone go. It didn't remotely sound like it was anything against the OP.

OP I am sorry to hear about your DH's job loss. I hope he finds something soon!
