DH just dropped a Bomb on me, I can not talk!

I have own a boat for over 25 years, but they were all the small version, bay fishing boats, nothing over twenty feet. I have spent a lot of time on larger offshore boats and can tell you they cost a lot of money to operate and maintain. If you can afford it and will get a lot of use out of it, go for it, if not you might want to rethink it.

As they say, (and this applies to any size boat, the bigger the more money)
the two happiest days in a boatowners life are the day they buy the boat, and the day they sell the boat.

Also, the definition of a boat - a hole in the water that you through money in.

My husband came home one day and told me he bought a new plane, he had an older one and said for safety and repair reason, he "needed" it. At first I was in shock that he would spend all that money without consulting me, however, I just figured now I didn't really have to consult him on any large purchases I make either, so I don't any more....

If I want new living room furniture, I don't consult. I bought some new appliances, I don't consult. I bought a hottub for the back yard, I don't consult. Now when I come home and casually mention I have purchased those things, he asks why I didn't consult him on them and I remind him that he bought his plane and never mentioned it to me. The conversation usually ends then.....:):)

I say enjoy the boat and the next time you want something new that costs a fair amount of $$$$$, don't consult....:)

Also, I say not to leave any money for the young nurse who will take care of him when he is 85 and you are gone, you know??...;)

Bon Voyage!!!!

I don't know much about boating but it is a beautiful boat. If you can afford it, I say go for it....life is way too short. If you are not sure about how much you would use it or enjoy it, how about chartering a boat for a long weekend to see if it is something you would enjoy before you spend all that $$$.

My dh would love to retire to a yacht someday but I am more of "take a cruise once a year but go cross country in an RV" type wife :rotfl2:
I only like really, really big boats. :earseek:

A friend of mine who owns boats says that there's an old saying:

The two best days in a guys life are when he buys a boat - and when he sells it!

Makes me look like I have a little dinghy....

Can I leave myself anymore wide-open?

I'd run...no way. Way too much money. Even if you lived in it, it would still be a fortune!

You know, I would word it like this....

A best day for a guy, when he buys a boat.
The best day for his wife, when he sells the boat.

Boating is OK. We just made plans to go to Branson with boating friends this summer.
I was just curious...to the OP.
Where do you boat?
Missouri has a lot of places to boat. Lake of the Ozarks being a big boating area.
However, here in Texas, where we live now, even though they have lakes they are small and shallow.

Nice! We have a friend who has a 65 foot Ocean. It has 2 mastersuites, 3 regular bedrooms and a butlers quarters! Be happy your DH is going cheaper! My DH sold his 25 ft Baja and ordered a 35 ft cigarette. I'd rather have yours!

DH has always wanted one, however I can just not see it! I do not think it would be something that we would use alot. DH is retired at age 47, however he does work for Radio Shack for something to do and loves it there! I told him that we would have to change our life style. I would really be scared to go on something like that, I am just not a boat person. I think it would be a waste of money and nothing but a big headache!

I feel for you. If you aren't a boat person and you're scared of it, it won't be for you no matter how nice it is.
Hope you guys can come to some sort of compromise.

How does he feel about hiking? j/k

OM GOsh DH is dead serious about this! I stopped by his work today just to visit, since I went up to the Mall, He informed me and he and one of his friends are going to get this:

"The Boat Show" in Atlantic City. It is coming up, it starts Feb. 1. I said how did you find out about the boat show, he said Sylveton Yatch. Now they build these Yatch's the town over from us, so we are lucky there, that we are close to their Home Office! I might just have to go to this boat show with them! :teeth: Of course that means that we will have to stop somewhere nice to eat as well!
