DH is going to the Dr. again tomorrow. But just wanted to see if anyone has any ideas. DH has had a fever at approx. the same time every night. The last few nights its be around 101 or 102. He feels a bit weak and just generally not good. He is queasy some nights but no vomiting. He went to the Dr. last week and they said clearly his body is fighting something but not sure what it is. And if it continues they'll do blood work. So he's going back tomorrow. The Dr. asked if he was at risk for HIV (he's not). And mentioned the possibility of Hepatitis or Mono. Someone at work said their sister had these symptoms and was diagnosed with kidney cancer. Anyone have any ideas? I had strep last week but DH's throat isn't sore. I know you guys aren't medical professionals, but I was just hoping someone might have some ideas for me.

not really sure why they didn't do blood work - DH thought the Dr. might be blowing him off. So he's going to his regular Dr. tomorrow (who wasn't available last Wednesday).

No - DH was not cultured after my strep. They said his throat looked fine so it wasnt necessary.

nope-they didn't really do anything. I am not sure if DH was pushy enough though. He will be tomorrow - he's sick of feeling sick. Plus he has to travel a lot for work and not feeling well makes it difficult. He's on a plane to NY, NY as we speak.

I can speak from experience on this- I had a fever of 101 everynight for 6 weeks last summer. I feel for your DH.( I am also a RN) A good MD will do a basic chemistry panel and a CBC (blood work) to start. This will usually point to a bacterial or viral infection. MOST of the time fever is a symptom of some kind of infection, so I wouldn't start thinking of cancer at this time-you'll just get yourself worried. But make sure he does see a good Dr. Good Luck.:flower3:

He really needs to push for blood work because it could be any number of things. I went through this years ago for a couple of months and it ended up being some kind of chronic mono. I had blood test after blood test for it.

Good luck.

I had this last year, where every night my temp would go up, I'd wake up in the morning and it would be perfectly normal, but creep up thru the day until the 101 or 102 at bedtime. It ended up being kidney stones that were infected.

I would think something autoimmune way before cancer. DW Lauri deals with intermittent fevers every day and they usually follow a close schedule and tend to be a lot more noticible at night.

My DD suffers from an genetic auto-inflammatory disease called TRAPS. SHe has fevers every month that last about a week. Is this the first time this has happened to him??? MOst of these condition appear in childhood and can resurface as adults...did he ever have these episodes of unexplained fever as a child??? Good luck...fever always leave you aking questions....

At first I was going to suggest his thyroid, but with the other symtoms it sounds like he has an infection of some sort.

Did the Dr check his lymph nodes? Throat, clavicle, groin and armpits? Make sure they do. Actually he can do it himself and make sure everything feels normal.

Has he had any homemade wine or beer recently?

My DH had the same symptoms a few years ago. His liver enzymes came back bad. My Mom figured it out before the doctor did. A client insisted that he try some homemade wine, and he got some kind of infection from it. Dr. said he sees it all the time (big Italian population around here--DH's uncle always tries to give us his home brew, and we have to take it or he'll be offended. Down the sink it goes). Antibiotics killed it.

Just found this thread. How is he doing? What did dr say? I had fevers every night for months (along with other symptoms) when I was first diagnosed with "lupus like" connective tissue disease.

DH had to reschedule his Dr. appt. and the earliest they could get him in is Thursday. So we don't have any answers yet.

I wanted to point out that you can have strep and not have a sore throat too. My son had a strange rash on his forehead and I took him to the Dr. They figured it was just some virus, but at the last minute decided to do a strep swab "just in case" and it came back positive. Of course, this was on the eve of our 1000 mile drive to Disneyland.

Explain to me why blood work was not done already.:confused3
So you had strep and he was not cultured?

My DH has had strep several times and neither DD or I have gotten it. Our dr didn't culture us either since we didn't have any symptoms. As far as bloodwork, they likely thought it was a virus and wanted to give it some time before going to the next step.

Lecach, he could still have some kind of virus. It's not uncommon for fever to hit at night time. Mono, Lyme Disease, Hepititis could also be possibilities. I hope you're able to find out soon and get him treated.

My brother had similar symptoms, and it turned out to be an infection of his heart valve. He had had a root canal months before, and they think the bacteria went to his heart valve and settled there, causing major problems.

This probably isn't the same thing your DH has, but I wanted to post it because it took my brothers doctors a lonnnnngggg time to finally figure out what was wrong with him, so you can always ask his doctor about it if they don't come up with anything right away.

Hope he feels better soon! :goodvibes
