DH went to the doctor last Friday because his knee was aching and his leg was red from the knee down. The doctor, at that time, said it wasn't cellulitis but a sprained knee and the redness was just his complection???!!! He was prescribed an anti-inflamatory.

His knee did not improve over the weekend and last night his leg and foot were very swollen. We called the doctor and he said to go to the ER for an ultrasound as it could be a blood clot. Thankfully, no blood clots were visable in the ultrasound so they suspect cellulitis which is what we thought it was to begin with! DH goes back to the hospital on Thursday for a follow-up ultrasound and will see the doctor on Friday to discuss what they find or don't find.

We are suppose to go to WDW next Wednesday. Should we cancel? Mother-in-law is trying to insist that we do. DH says too bad we are going anyway. The ER doctor said that as long as there aren't any blood clots DH should be okay to go but I don't know alot about cellulitis.

Please give me your opinions!

I can't offer any advice. You may want to ask this on the disabilities board. They are great about answering questions. You husband could rent a scooter for the length of your stay.

I think you should go ahead and go since there are no blood clots PLUS his Doctor says it's okay. I'd rather have cellulitis at WDW than have it at home. :)

I dont know much about this....but if your husbands docter give's him the ok and he feel's up to it,why not? My main concern would be having the doc's ok. And to make sure my hubby doesnt over do it while were there! Plus my DH and I dont listen to his mom anyway, but she is pshyco!!! That is a whole other story!:scared1:

Sounds like my mother-in-law. She has gotten even worse about interferring since our DD was born. She actually advised me to put sugar on my daughter's pacifier just to get her to take one when she was fussy! So we very rarely take her advice.

DH is on an antibiotic and said this morning he isn't having much pain. We'll see what the doctor says on Friday after the ultrasound and hopefully he will give his final approval to take our trip. I will make sure we take it slow in WDW, maybe even rent an ECV.

Thank you everyone!!

if your doctor says goooooooooooooo .....then gooooooo.......the only time she has a problem is if she has openings .....then she wears her compression stockings.......My neices brother in law went to disney last week and he has cellulitis frequently ......he was fine there and had a good time.....if he gets tired.....rent a wheel chair for him.....taht is all....relaxing is the best thing for you and for him......so goooooooo

and antibiotics are the proper treatment for this.....if his legs swell alot.....have him elevate them occasionally......

I agree with go.:bounce:

If the doctor says okay and your husband says okay, then who else gets a vote;)

If his doctor says it's fine and his condition is visibly improving, then go. If something happens to change things, it will happen way before next Wednesday. Cellulitis can sometimes be tricky to treat, since a lot of times the regular antibiotics doctors prescribe most of the time don't work, and some people do end up in the hospital just so they can have the antibiotics administered orally, but you would probably know by tomorrow if that was necessary.

I'm asking because my older neighbor (who is constantly self diagnosing) says she has "cellulitis",but it does not look like what your describing! She has an itchy rash and very dry skin from her knees down to her ankles. I keep telling her to see her Doctor, but
sometimes old timers feel like that's a waste of good money(her thoughts on Doctors!).

If the doc says it's OK to go, then go. Consider a scooter though, as cellulitis can be exacerbated by walking a lot. Elevate the leg whenever possible, and ask you r doc about applying warm compresses or soaking in the hot tub.

Yup - follow the advice of the doctor.. If he gives the go-ahead then there's no reason to stay home..

MIL probably forgot that your DH isn't 5 years old anymore.. LOL ;)

Go and have fun. Make sure he takes it easy though.

I think he is a "big boy" and should do what he see's fit not his "Mommy".

I went in August when I was too ill to walk around, and we rented a scooter/cart from CARE by calling the resort. They delivered it right to OKW and it was there by the time we checked in. I believe it was 175 for the week.
