DH...FIGHT...who's right?! Car Rental or Disney Trasport

And just think - if the car sits in the parking lot all week, you can remind him of this if he ever wants to rent a car at Disney again.:lmao:

:lmao: :lmao: Sorry, I had to laugh at the previous post. Whenever my DH is being stubborn, we do things his way just so I get bragging rights to "I told you so!!!" Once I say that he ALWAYS backs down because he knows I am right 98% of the time, but he just doesn't like to admit it. :rotfl:

See, my dh is the opposite. I remind and remind of past mistakes when he didn't listen to me(which there are a TON of) but he still thinks that everytime it's the best decision he's ever made and there are no negatives....lmao

So even though it's fun to bring it up, it makes no impact whatsoever.

My whole problem with this is not that he wants to rent a car it's the fact that he sees NO cons whatsoever. He has it in his head that he's going to go rent this car and it's just going to be the best thing that has ever happened to him, no waits in line, his words "we can just ZIP to/from parks and go anywhere with no waiting", etc. If he was saying, yeah, it probably won't be a ton better, but I still want to try it, I'd be ok. He doesn't forsee me wanting to throw him out the window when he can't figure out where he's going...lmao...

He's getting advice from 2 guys he works with. They are all for it. BUT, they drive to disney, love driving, etc. My dh drives no where except work and home. I drive everywhere we go, trips and everything. He is not a fun person to be in the car with if you get lost, etc. I would rather give up 30min to 1hr per day on buses and even be standing than deal with that.

So here's to us never missing a turn and everything being great....

Oh, a few more details. We are only eating at one resort this time WL, so we are taking the boat from it to the restaurant. We don't ever leave parks, we stay out from around 9am to 9pm. So it's not like we are really going to be saving that much time, you know?

Another thing is that he isn't calculating the time it will take to go to DTD(when we didn't plan to that day) get the car, get back to the resort, etc. He's also not calculating in parking, trams etc. Filling back up with gas at the end of the trip, etc.

His biggest complaint was the time it took to get to MK, which now after reading all your posts about how miserable it is to park there, he wants to take the bus to??? So really I don't see how we are saving that much time.

We booked a car through them for $110/wk unlimited mileage.
That's for Nov 26-Dec 3

Wow! Did you have any codes or anything? Was that an economy car? The cheapest I can find for a full-size(which is what we are needing, 3 adults/2 carseats) is $199 with taxes and all for the 8days. Haven't checked Thrifty, but I'll do that, thanks!

Try the code Avista.
I also was able to get that rate trying another code off of Mousesavers. Good luck and let me know how it goes.

I tried Avista, that turned up nothing. I did try one I found on their site though for free upgrades NWNO

It was only $195 for 8days for a full-size, so a little better. Thanks!

We have a compact reserved for Nov 26-Dec 3 for $110/wk
that's for 2 adults, DD (9) and an infant in a car seat.
maybe the dates make a difference too.
I tried a code from mousesavers "004M001010"
and got that same price.
I hope you can find something reasonable.
I was debating on not bothering with the car but after reading these boards I am going to stick with one just because we will have our youngest DD with us and she will be 10 months old.

Try hotwire- I dont know how it looks for Orlando but it is a definite substantial savings for my trip to San Fran - I am looking at $147 (5 nights full size) and hotwire uses the top 5 car rental co. I am seriously considering giving priceline a try for this.

I still stand by my original thought

You are on vacation - use ME and let the bus driver chauffer you to the parks!

good thinking, didn't think about priceline.

Now we are wondering if we should do a car or not...lol...we are looking at our schedule and are spending quite a few days at MK. From what I've read here the buses are actually about the same or faster, right? Ugh...

We rent and use ME. I take ME with 2 of the kids, and DH drives to the resort with the other. This way we don't have to deal with getting all of the luggage to the resort. We always getthere just about the same time.

As far as parking and trams. We never use the trams, it's too much of a pain with strollers. We park and walk to the entrance. It honestly only takes a couple of minutes.

I never thought a car was necessary until we actually tried it. I couldn't believe how quick it was to get places.

I see you're staying at ASMu. We stayed there without a car when DS was a baby and honestly that's the reason we decided to rent on our subsequent trips. The busses were always crowded, plus it took a while to get anywhere since you share busses with the other Allstars. Most of the time buy time the bus got to us it was standing room only because of ASSp. Granted, that was 6 years ago so maybe things have improved since then.

We stay offsite so we always rent a car. On our last trip, we did use Disney transport as we took a day for DTD and resort hopping. We took the boat from DTD ot OKW and it was very nice and relaxing. Then we took a bus from OKW to Epcot (because it was the first bus that came along) and took the monorail from Epcot to TCC, and then the monorail to Poly for our reservation at 'Ohana. All told, I think it took about 45-50 mins to get from OKW to Poly. After dinner, we took the bus back to DTD to pick up our car (we were having something embroidered at the Christmas Shop, so we had to go back to pick it up anyway and decided just to leave the car there, too.) The bus ride back was not exactly to our liking. It was very cold on the bus because the a/c was on, even though it was a brisk evening. The bus was crowded and I didn't like that we were driving very fast, people were standing, and of course, no seatbelts. Just didn't feel safe.

My synopsis is that although we only tried the busses for one day, we didn't enjoy waiting or standing. With small kids and all their equipment, renting a car will make a more enjoyable experience.

Ok, so I think I'm convinced now. So if I'm getting a deal for $195 for the 8 days with taxes and all for a full-size, should I go ahead and book now or wait until closer since we aren't going until Sept? I've never rented before, so I'm not sure???

My family and I are going on your exact dates - Sep22-29 - and I've got a mid-size SUV from Alamo for $217 all taxes in for p/u @ 10:00 a.m. and drop-off @ 7:00 p.m.
No special codes either -I just used codes from mousesavers
At those rates why wouldn't you want to rent for the convenience.

book it now, if the price goes down you can rebook and cancel

Oh ok, I thought I read that someone said not to lock yourself into a rate because you couldn't cancel. Can I cancel if I pre-pay? I know Alamo had a prepay discount.

If you cancel a pre-pay rate through Alamao rate more than 24 hours in advance there is a $5 fee, less than 24 hours it's $10

Can you answer a question? There'll be 3 adults this September trip, and we do have a car rented, but I love the option of not having to pick up luggage. So if my sister and niece take ME, will my luggage be picked up too? Or will I have to wait for my luggage since I won't be doing ME?

It depends on how much luggage there is. You get two luggage tag per person, so a total of 4 tags. My kids are little so 6 tags is plenty for the 5 of us.

I agree with this, you can send as many pieces on ME as you have tags.
