DH and I are having our first stay on-site at the Poly this September because it's our Anniversary and he wanted to do something really special for me and this is it. I am also going again in October with my girlfriends, for free, and we're staying at GF. Then I'm going for Halloween with my family (DH and DD) and we're staying off-site :(.

Here is my problem. Right now, we've never stayed on-site so we don't know the difference between on-site and off (we do Disney once a year). I believe that I will have a hard time staying off-site once I've stayed on-site and it's worrying me!

We cannot afford to stay at an on-site Deluxe resort anytime soon so I ran the idea of staying at a Value resort instead of one of the Moderates or Deluxes so that way we can enjoy Disney to our full potential. He is not trying to hear about a Value resort because "you get what you pay for" and then he says to me that staying on Disney does not create a feel of Magic. How can I convince him that it does and that we should at least stay in a Value vs. an off-site resort, which he says has two bedrooms, a living room, two bathrooms, kitchen and a laundry machine. I can't compete! I think this is more of a vent session.

We have stayed on property and off over the years. I agree with you, I believe on-property is so much better! And the off-property resorts we have stayed at were not your run-of-the-mill hotels either. They were 4-star timeshare resorts (two were Marriott and the other was Worldmark, and all three had very nice accomodations/amenities.) The fact is that when you're on property you're surrounded by everything Disney and I just find that to be very magical. Maybe I'm in the minority, I don't know. But when we go to WDW we really don't like to go off property much and when we do it almost seems like we've left our vacation for a few hours, lol. And maybe you can afford more than you think if you forgo the rental car? Just a thought!

I do feel your pain. Maybe after you have stayed on property once your dh will see what you're talking about!

I have to agree with your DH on the "magic" part.. I've stayed on-site and off-site both and the magic is in the parks.. The hotels are great, but they're just hotels.. :flower:
