We tried Dole Whip today for the first time. DH lips became swollen. He doesn’t have any known allergies. I guess we won’t be trying it again. Was just an okay snack. Neither of us cared too much for it actually.

So sorry that treat trial was definitely less than magical. It is my all time favorite WDW treat.

Yikes! I wonder what ingredient caused the reaction?! I would suggest asking for the complete ingredient list so he can avoid it in the future. First reactions can be milder than subsequent ones.

Hope the rest of your trip is wonderful and that you both find a treat you love!

Thanks, the rest of the day was fine. We just drove from Tampa for the day. DD and her BF wanted to go for the day and since they are only 15, DH and I were nice enough to drive them. LoL. We don’t go to Disney as often as we did when she was younger. The last few visits were just DD and I (cheer competitions, birthday mom/DD days). DH rode the 7D mine train for the first time. It was fairly crowded, like summer crowds, but weren’t trying to ride & do everything. The marathon must have brought the larger crowd. It was perfect Disney weather too.

Apparently her BF has only been to Disney once when he was 10.

Lots of people have reactions, which include swelling of tongue and lips, to pineapple. Next time he eats pineapple, have him test a very small bit before eating a full portion. Allergies develop at any time. He could have been fine with pineapple before, but has now become allergic.

coconut is another one to do this with. Also watch lotions and stuff as they often have coconut oil in them. This is another common allergy that people can develop.

Yep. I developed a peanut allergy at 40 (so far not anaphylactic-level...or at least before I stopped because I was reacting). A friend of mine who grew up eating seafood went into anaphylactic shock one night eating it when she was in her late 30s (thankfully she got help in time and is fine). That's why food allergies are especially scary - you can eat something your whole life and then wham they hit you.

I would definitely do further investigation. You can't just be allergic to dole whip and just blame it on that, because there is obviously something in the ingredients that triggered an allergic reaction. I have a child with multiple food allergies and I've learned a lot about them. You really need to figure it out so that he doesn't end up having a random dangerous reaction somewhere without an epipen.
