Ive been back a couple of days and left everyone in suspense as to when my TR would get started. Well, the wait is over. Im not promising an emmy winning performance, but it will be a glimpse into our trip. We may bond, grow a little closer and hopefully yall leave with a sense of accomplishment. If not, I still had a blast.
The trip starts out on 20 Dec 2010. DW had to work, so it left me and the kids to get the camper ready for the long trip to the fort. We end up hitting the road about 1230. Traffic was light, and we pulled into the checkin lane around 1305. I end up in lane 2, third camper back. After a few minutes, I noticed the were opening lane 1 and they waved me over, sweet, or maybe not. You know those little red tags the CMs wear? The "Earning My Ears" ones? Yeh, the CM cheking us in had one. Normally, I have no problem with this as everyone has to learn sometime, but when the words "we have no reservation under that name" came out of his mouth I about came unglued. Luckily I always travel with the proper documentation and I showed him that I did indeed have a reservation and I completed the online chekin. He found it after some supervisor help and the first hurdle was cleared.
I was then told my site was not ready yet. No problem, we were kind of early. So we complete the chekin process and head over to pick up our disney GC. My plan was to park in over flow and do some looping till the site was ready. The GC keys are handed to me and guess what happened. I get a txt saying my site was now ready. Score.
We were assigned site 433, in the infamous Jackwagon Run.
Only the sign had been vadalized and the name changed.
No worries though, I hear the name was changed due to a longterm guest of that loop departed.
This was our first stay in the 400 loop so did not know what to expect. It was a nice loop, close to the outpost. Site 433 however is to be avoided. The site is located right at the entrance to the loop. To get in, you must pull forward into the loop, the back up around a curve. It was a little difficult, but with strict instructions to DD17, we made it in. The noise form the traffic on the main road got a little old after a few days as well. It is right acrossed from the 100/200 entrance and near the outpost bus stop, so you have traffic from all directions all hours of the night. Not to mention the foot traffic that passes within feet of the rear of the site.
Here are a few pictures.
This is looking out the front of the site
I get the site set up and begin working on the Dish. As some of you know, I posted earlier that it took me an hour to dial it in for a good signal. It was suggested my man card be revoked for this hanas act. In my defense (in hoping to keep my man card) during that hour, I never gave up. I was determined to get a signal despite. A few beers later, and I had a good 75% signal strength. I was proud. But let me show you why it took so long.
This is where the dish ended up. I was able to get a signal here.
Note the gap in the foilage. This is the only clear view I could get. I had to aim the dish between the trees.
One final look to show the complicity of the set up.
The sad thing is, I spent an hour setting this up, and we watched TV maybe 3 times the entire week. One was the season finale of the Sing Off, A christmas story (family tradition), and we recorded the Disney Christmas Day Parade. But I got it working.
Tonight was family night. DWs mother came by to do gifts with the kids. Ill spare you the family pics.
Comming up next, my 40th b-day at Hollywood studios.
