My DH wants to drive down the night before and stay in a hotel before our 8:50 am flight. He's worried about traffic on the 401 and border crossing (ambassador bridge). I say we just drive (we live in Chatham, which is 45 minutes from Windsor). If I can find a good deal on a hotel, I'll stay. I can't seem to find one that has fairly good rates that include parking for the week. Otherwise it's $9 US a day for parking on the Big Blue Deck at metro airport, which is fine.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Hello,

We are flying out from Detroit on August 27, I got the Marriott at Detroit Hotel on August 26 for 58.50US taxes and fees included. I put a bid for 3*& $48.00 and got the Marriott. On the website the rate is $200.00 US per night. It does not include parking but it sure beats all the other hotels that include parking in their price.

I have used Priceline many times. Once you place your bid and it is accepted there is no turning back. Checkout biddingfortravel.com.

Good Luck

Hi-Not from Canada, so sorry about jumping into your thread....but we've left from Detroit lots of times, always staying the night before. We stay at Baymont Inn (734-722-6000). We've had good luck with them, parking is free, and the shuttle service is great. Driver puts luggage into shuttle, takes it out, drops you off at the closest terminal to your gate, and is very friendly. The hotel is clean and offers a free breakfast and parking.

We just stayed at the Ramada in July and liked it. It was $89 and included 7 days of parking, the hotel stay and breakfast. I hate the stress of worrying if the border is going to be backed up. Staying over night, at least you get a little extra sleep too. We've stayed at the Metropolitan, used to the Doubletree. Really nice hotel but terrible service now that it's no longer a Doubletree.

:)

Just saw this thread and am really glad. If a ding comes through Detroit I will gladly drive 4 hrs to Detroit if I can't get one from Buffalo. The Baymont Inn sounds excellent for us.

When are you going? My Dad drives truck, (from Ridgetown), crosses at the Bridge every morning and says that it is in good shape during the early morning...since technically you need to be at the airport about 1-1/2 to 2 hours before your flight leaves, you should be fine driving from home. Even here in Sarnia where the backup has been nightmarish lately, if you are crossing before 9am you are usually ok.:)

Baymont for us too! I think it's $89 for the night and 9 days of parking.
We're arriving Sept 20. Maybe I'll pass some of you in the hall! lol

I also like to drive to Detroit the day before and spend the night to avoid border issues in the morning. However, the last time we flew, we spent the night at the Crowne Plaza on Merriman. There were two cars in the parking lot on cinder blocks with all four wheels missing (and the lug nuts on the ground beside the cars)! The owner of one of the cars was really upset with the front desk clerk who kept reminding the customer that although the hotel tries their best to keep watch, the lot is not secured. When we stay at the Crowne, we park in the secure lot next door (the Quik Park). I think it is around $8 or $9/night but it makes me feel better that my car is watched 24/7! Both the hotel and the parking lot have free shuttles to the airport.

We just got back and did the 4hr drive to Detroit. We stayed at the Baymont - very convenient, shuttle service was quick and free breakfast in the AM. I found a rate for $79 included 10 days of parking on another website (can't remember which one) but when I called them they changed it. They did not ask me where I found it - no questions asked - matched the rate.

I forgot to add - one of the cons of staying at this hotel is it is not a secured lot - park at your own risk. Its a quiet area and nothing happened that made us feel unsafe but don't leave valuables and park near a lamp post for the added lights.

We would stay there again.

I bid on Priceline and got the Marriott Airpot Hotel for $48 + fees which came out to $58.50. When we checked in, we were offered parking for $30.00 for 8 days. We ended up paying $88.50 for hotel and parking and this hotel is so luxurious.
