Destinations where Canadian dollar can stretch further?

Having a tough time finding a travel destination this year with our weak dollar.

I’m not really interested in doing a Canadian vacation…plus did a little searching and Toronto to Calgary with a carryon is $720 in July 😱

Also not interested in all inclusives as we don’t drink or like lying around on vacation.

We like hiking/nature, exploring cities and nightlife.
Any suggestions?

Sounds like your are in ON. What about the Thousand Islands? You can use Via Rail.

I hear Cuba is cheap to visit too.

The latest few years we've been exploring eastern Quebec... Gaspe, Saganeuy, Eastern Townships, Tadoussac, Quebec City... there's some amazing hidden gems in that area.

For flights, sign up for Porter's sale notifications. They seem to have a different sale every week and a lot of them are for Canadian travel (including their current one).

Why is your dollar so weak?

The Ottawa/Montreal area has lots of festivals to enjoy in July. Great hiking/biking in Gatineau Park and the Lauentians. Tour Mont Tremblant. Lots to do and great weather in July.

The USA's interest rate is higher than Canada's interest rate among other reasons such as crude oil prices and international trade outlooks. Are you asking because you honestly don't know or are you trolling?
I asked because the underlying (barely) theme in these and other like threads seems to be US politics,in particular one man, is the cause of all the perceived issues up north …. Those ills have been going on way longer than since Jan 20 … as usual as soon as someone asks a question or heaven forbid doesn’t agree he/she gets accused of being a troll ‘or worse’ … cancel away!

The OP did not mention one man, US politics, or "recent events".... nor were they complaining. Just mentioned that with the dollar being weak (which it is right now), they are looking for places to go. I don't see how there is any underlying theme to this thread, other than where is the Canadian dollar stronger for travelling to? You seem to be carrying some sort of grudge into this conversation, or perhaps even baiting them, for what reason I don't know - why even ask the question?

Said also similar threads, I’ve read a couple today… I have no grudge against OP or anyone else …bait into what? That’s ludicrous Asked the question because I didn’t know why it was weak … as you may have guessed I am not Canadian so why would I know what happens there ?

A few places you could consider for your travels - you could go to Mexico City or Puerto Vallarta, no need for all inclusives. I haven't been but have recently had a few friends come back from Colombia and rave about it. Toronto to Bogota is around a 6 hour flight. And you still have to contend with exchange rate with the Euro, but Portugal often has good prices for flights and is much cheaper than other Western European countries.

Simple answer to your question has NOTHING to do with politics (slightly connected as seen below), it's just a simple fact of the exchange rate. There's often confusion surrounding the fact that both currencies are referred to as DOLLARS but we need to compare the "value" of ours compared to yours.

Directly from the Bank of Canada rates at this moment in time for us to buy $100 USD it will cost us $1.43-ish CDN but on Saturday when the announcements surrounding tariffs dropped it would have cost us $1.46 CDN. OR if you look at the other way around (which we tend to do), take $100 CDN into the bank and we will get less than $70 USD. That makes a trip south of the border just not possible for most of us!!!

Not going to be baited into a discussion about the politics because the OP was only asking other Canucks where they suggest travelling that doesn't require us to pay even more. "Making the CDN stretch further"

I think some of the responses were because people were surprised that someone (especially on a Canadian-focused forum) wasn't aware of why the exchange rate is low. And it's not just politics... there's a lot of complexities in market-driven exchange rates. If I could predict it I'd make a killing in arbitrage.

Trolling would be the right answer. He’s stirring things up regarding a Canadian selling their DVC in the DVC mouselanious forum.
