Dessert party? To have or not to have...

Hi all

I'm getting married at 5pm and I can't decide whether to just stay in the whitehall room and party in there or have a dessert party? You see, the problem I have is that I want the wedding to end later than 10pm, I was thinking more like midnight. I know you can extend the dessert party, but my coordinator has told me that you can no longer use entertainment after the fireworks end. So, if I had a dessert party that ends at 10pm, what can I do afterwards to make the wedding last longer? :confused3

I am getting married @ 5pm @ the WP, then we are having the grand ballroom.
I did not want a 'dessert party' but I did want to watch the fireworks. So we are having a dessert like party @ 10 in the GF Marina.
Basically we will let our guests choose if they want to come outside to watch (if so we will have cake/coffee/drinks) or if they want to stay inside & party. I am planning on going back in the ballroom after fireworks & dancing till 12!

I dont understand the music stopping @ 10? Maybe you cant have it @ the dessert party? Cant help on that part.

Good luck

Our wedding was at 5 at the WP. Then we had our reception at Whitehall and moved to Sago Cay Pointe for the dessert party.
WISHES didn't start that night until 10, so we were at the marina until at least 11:30. Most guests stayed around for a while, so we ended up going close to midnight! No dancing and music though.. so it all just depends on what you want more!

They said it was something to do with the day guests :confused3 I really like the idea of doing a dessert type party at GF marina though!! :goodvibes Can I ask how much this is costing you and how long your expecting it to last?

Anna2984, have you checked with your planner that it is ok to do this? I would hate to get my hopes up because this sounds like a really cool idea :thumbsup2

That's interesting... because the policy is that you can't have music while day guests are still in Epcot. But it seems like if you want to stay ther etil midnight, they should let you have music after the day guests all leave...

As for whether to have a dessert party at all, I highly recommend them! It's one of the things that makes Disney weddings unique, and your guests will be talking about it for a long time. :)

Yes my planner said they would recommend this (this is in our contract which I have @ our house & we are sending back this week) B/c I wanted to watch the fireworks, but I did not just want to randomly walk out there. I am doing a Wishes wedding, I dont know if that has anything to do with it.

But yeah I thought the idea was cool.

Sorry I have not figured out how to do 2 quotes in 1 reply...

We will have the area @ the GF Marina from 9:45-11:15pm. the start of the MK Fireworks & till my FI & I leave on the Grand 1. And we have the ballroom till 11 also.

I honestly dont know the cost (my parents are handling that) but I do know we are not providing any extra desserts. I wanted my cake to be the main dessert. We are having drinks & I am told we can have cake cut & brought out there if we want.

So do you think it will be possible for me to have the dessert party 9.45pm til 11.15pm and then go back into the whitehall for dancing til 12.30ish? I have planned to extend my reception anyway, but I just really want to do a dessert party. Lurkyloo, you are right its something you can only do at Disney!!! I emailed my coordinator so just gotta wait til he gets back to me now. Fingers crossed...

I suppose my other option would be to do a dessert party as a welcome party, but its just not the same. Can anyone give me any info on this?
