Dessert Party as a surprise?

I reserved the dessert party for my group on next week's trip -- we are four late-20s girls, if that makes a difference. I think for once, I'm actually going to manage to pull off something as a surprise, lol.

I'm trying to figure out how/when to tell them. We have a lunch (12:30) at LC that day, then a break at the hotel, and the dessert party is at 8. I know my friends well enough that we will each need to have a protein-y snack before the party (going from steak/burgers at noon to only dessert until the end of 3AM EMH is a bad plan.)

I really like the idea of saying, "Oh, I have the perfect viewing spot for Wishes" and just "ending up" in the line, but I can't figure out how to instruct my friends to have just a small, protein-y snack before that. LOL. So I'm also considering telling them on the way TO the MK that when we arrive, we need to grab a snack because we're doing the dessert party later. It kind of loses that element of "discovering" the surprise, though.

Has anyone else done this, and if so, how did you reveal? Thoughts?

We surprised our 19-22 year old kids and their guests, for a total of 6 surprises, on our last trip in June 2010. It was one of our favorite parts of the trip! In fact we are going back to Disney this December and when I gave the choice of Mickey's Xmas Party this year or another Dessert Party, the Dessert Party won by unanimous decision.

For our surprise, I had planned most of us eating a late 2:30 lunch so they wouldn't get that urge to eat much before the party anyway, but 2 were flying in later and I knew they would need to eat after they got in at 5. I simply said, "I can't tell you why but eat very lightly because I have a surprised planned." We were all going our own ways for a while so as we walked by the restaurant on the way into Tomorrowland I said "OK, everyone meet here at 8:45 and don't be late. Then we will tell you what the surprise is. " It worked and they loved it.

So, a suggestion is you could just try saying that you have planned a surprise for everyone but its important it not be done on a full stomach. That could leave them all guessing that it could be some sort of an activity or ride instead of it being food. Mention that if they are hungry after the surprise then you can grab a bite.

Its such a great event! Good Luck and Enjoy!

I would tell them at lunch. Make up cards or something to pass out to them... then they will know how much they would like to eat at lunch and what they might like to get for a snack later. Or at least tell them that they should plan to control their sweet intake at lunch and after.

A couple of weeks ago, we ate at LC for lunch and did the Wishes Dessert Party that night. I can tell you I was SO full from LC (11:30 ressie) that I almost couldn't eat the desserts at the party (which was at 9:00)! What if you ate your desserts first, then had a CS meal afterwards. It's always fun to eat dessert first, right? You could tell them, "Hey let's go grab some food at the Tomorrowland Terrace." (You wouldn't be lying.) Then hand them a "coupon" ;) that you ran across, but instead the coupon would say "Surprise! We're going to the Dessert Party!" Later, you could get a CS meal if you're still hungry, but I doubt you will be. Have fun!!!

I planned a Desert Party surprise for my DH. I told him that I read in the guide book that this is the place that tinkerbell flies to and it has the best spot for viewing Wishes. So I said we need to be back here by about 8:00 so we could get a good spot. He was totally surprised and confused when we got in line. He was like what is this line for? Surprise. He loved it, deserts and viewing were great. As far as the meal goes I planned an early lite lunch that day so by around 7 we were hungry. We grabbed burgers from Cosmic Rays and that kept off the sugar shakes, as I call them. The whole plan came off without a hitch.
