Dermatologist or Plastic Surgeon?

My daughter has a raised bump similar to a mole as a result of the chicken pox (from last April).
It's right under her neck on her chest and she wants to get it removed. I'm thinking that this is better to do while she's young so her skin will heal with less scarring.
Is this the type of thing a dermatologist would do or should a plastic surgeon remove it?

I would shoot for plastic surgeon if you are at all worried about scarring

I have several of these from chicken pox. They are keloid (raised) scars. Mine are also hypertrophic (spread from origional spot). I went to a plastic surgeon to have them removed and he would not touch them. He said that they would come back and could come back 10x worse. He gave me a sheet of silicone that I cut up into patches to cover the scars. It made them softer and they laid down a little. But they still hurt and itched so I went to a dermatologist and he said the only thing that could be done was to have them injected with cortizone. I had this done three times and some of them have stayed flat and you can hardly see them. The others need to have injections but my insurance no longer covers the treatment.

I was always so embarrased of my scars and never wore any shirts that had a v-neck but now I wear them as a badge of honor now. I wear deep v shirts and have no fear anymore.

But whatever she decides do to please please do your homework and don't take the Dr's word. Get a second opinion.

Would insurance cover a plastic surgeon? I would take her to a dermatogist, get thier opinion first.

Good advice.

Thank you

My son had a chicken pox scar on his face. He was 6 at the time. It was noticeable for several years, but it faded and is not even noticeable now. I guess some of the scars can fade over time.
