Deluxe views at DLH - Worth the money?

In your opinion, is it worth an extra $400 over 6 nights to go from a standard view to deluxe view?

As I have said before - "worth" is a very subjective word. Some people will claim that it's not worth it to stay at the DLH period regardless of room choice. For me - it would depend on how much the standard room cost and if I am going to be spending much time within during my stay. For example the deluxe view is $67 extra per night for your stay (not sure if that is just the rate or if that includes all taxes and fees in) but, if the standard room is already say $450 or $500 then you are paying a lot of money period to stay there so what's a bit more. My question would be - say you pay the standard amount and you get there and you are looking out at a bush or a parking lot of something god awful - which soon enough might be the case for most of their rooms once construction starts on the new hotel. Are you going to be deflated - like "we paid this much for this" and "I don't even feel like I'm in disney looking out at that view"? If you are then it's worth it to upgrade and feel like yes, I've paid a crapload to stay here but at least I'm happy with the entire experience. I personally have tried to justify staying on site for several trips but haven't been able to justify paying twice as much for a smaller room so I guess maybe someday? Have fun whatever you do!!

Only if you plan on sitting in your room looking out the window all day.
The only time I looked out at my standard view was when we first went in the room and in the morning to see what the weather was doing. Total of 5 minutes, tops. And I agree. It is subjective.

Nope
Not for me

In the DLH, I like the Fantasy Tower, Standard view. When we've been in the room during the fireworks we've been able to see the whole show.
This has been when the park closes early and they are doing a run of the fireworks program after hours.

Depends what the view is of and what you'll be doing. I enjoy having a nice pool view, but we are usually back at the hotel during the afternoons so we get some use out of it. If you're never in the room, I don't think it's as worth it.

Good opinions. We don't spend a lot of time in the room, but when we're there, I want to feel like I'm in Disney. Laying in bed at night seeing a parking lot outside, not my idea of being in the bubble.

At the Disneyland Hotel I don't think I would pay for an upgraded view. The upgraded views are mostly views of the pool area and a room location on a higher floor. Of the 3 onsite properties I would say at PPH a theme park view is worth it, at DLH I am happy with a standard view since the pool view isn't important to me, and at GCH - I would upgrade to the courtyard/woods view. One year my family was booked in standard view room at the DLH and we were lucky enough to get some pixie dust and ended up with a upper floor room in the Fantasy Tower that overlooked the pool (at the time it was the Neverland Pool). We enjoyed the room so we specifically booked an upgraded view on our next visit and we got a lousy view. It was an upper floor room in the Fantasy Tower that supposedly overlooked the pool but we were so far over to the corner of the tower that we mostly had a view of the roof below. We probably should have said something about that room and the experience in general but didn't. That is when we switched to the GCH. With the GCH under going renovations last year we went back to the Disneyland Hotel and we booked a standard view. The room was in the Adventure Tower and it was a lower floor on the Downtown Disney side. No park or Downtown Disney view but it was very quiet and peaceful and we could look out at the trees and a little sitting area below. We really enjoyed that stay and would stay again in that area. I think it really comes down to what you value most. I don't mind the parking lot view or a partial view if I am paying the standard view rate and like many people stated you may have a standard view that faces the parking lot but also faces the park and the fireworks. If you do end up with a parking lot view you can always do some good people watching if you over look the valet station. Good luck with whatever you decide and I hope you enjoy the park and hotel as much as we did. No matter what room you get just know that the hotel is beautiful and it is all the same once you step out of the elevator and walk around the grounds. You will be in the bubble.

If it really matters so much that you have "the best this" and "the best that" and be "in the bubble" (and the DLR bubble is quite different from the WDW bubble -- note that it's not bad, just different), then pay whatever it takes for you to have peace of mind so you'll know that you'll be getting what you want. You've expressed a lot of anxiety here, to the point of almost cancelling your trip -- so if it would make your stay better and help you enjoy your time at the DLH more, pay for the upgrade so you'll know you'll be getting what you want. If it would be "worth it" to you and your family, then it's worth it. There isn't a way to put a price value on your peace of mind. And without peace of mind, it would be hard to have a great vacation anywhere.

I think the DLH is already $$. Last year i was in the same situation. It was about $300 more for a deluxe view. This was our first time staying on site. We did not upgrade and we were put in the Froniter room overlooking the parking lot. My stay there though was very much worth it. We were in the room more often than when we stay offsite but none of us were worried about looking outside. We were either resting, watching tv, eating or changing for pool or park.

The pool is great, the kids loooved it. I never felt outside the Disney bubble just because i was not able to see the pool or park through my window. But a view was not my reason for staying on site. We wanted EMH, pool, and proximity to the parks and DTD. If a view is something that matters to you then upgrade.
