I've stayed at deluxe, and next time I'm staying value. Our income hasn't changed, but what I wanted from the resort did. I think for those with pre-teens to younger children, the perks of the deluxe aren't as important. We are staying at the AoA in a family suite this time (though it costs nearly as much as the Poly/BC/YC when we are going), and there were a couple of reasons for that. The first is that the AoA has the fantastic kid appeal, far more so than the deluxe hotels. Hands down, the AoA won against any deluxe I showed them. They don't care about the nice amenities of the deluxe, they wanted to be in their favorite movies and enjoy having their very own space while in the room. The pool at home we belong to has both indoor and outdoor pools with fancy slides that they use all the time. The deluxe/mod pool slides are not really a deal breaker for us, because for my kids, the slides there look pretty mundane. The Disney waterparks, however, are a different story. We have a day set aside for REAL water slide excitement.
When the kids are older, we will likely return to the deluxe resorts. I think they'd appreciate the finer things when they are teens far more then they would now.
