I was wondering if anyone has had any bad experiances with Delta because of there size, Im a little nervous about my flight I dont want to be singled out because of my size. we booked on a 767 so it has 3 rows 2 seats 3 seats 2 seats and picked are seats making sure noone will be sitting directly next to us. has anyone had to pay for an extra seat flying Delta? After watching that airline show with southwest and how they singled those few people out and basicly humiliated them(imo) I just dont want something like that to happened to me.

Some airlines have started making you buy 2 tickets if you can't fit in one seat. If this is the case, try a first class ticket, it might be less than 2 tickets in coach.

I am assuming that the seat configuration you are talking about goes like this:

Window,Seat,Seat, Aisle,Seat,Seat,Seat, Aisle,Seat,Seat,Window

Do you mean that there are two of you and that you picked your seats next to each other in one of the 2-seat sections?

If so, there shouldn't be any problem. The worst that might happen is that you would have to ask for a seat belt extender. The flight attendants are used to that request and I can't believe they wouldn't handle it discreetly.

Enjoy the trip.

In February we flew Delta/Song and there was a larger person sitting in front of us on the aisle seat. There were 2 other people (middle and window) sitting there too. I'm sure that she was quite uncomfortable as the person beside her was. The attendant handed her an extension belt, but made no effort to reseat either her, nor the couple next to them (who were not with them). But, of course, you don't have to be a larger person to be uncomfortable because the seats on the planes barely give anyone room. Hubby and I are always elbowing each other during our flight and we are of average size.

thanks, the last time I flew i was 18(am 25 now) Im the same size as I was then, I didnt need a seatbelt extention, but was a bit uncofortable, but i was sitting with my mother who is also plus sized, my husband on the other hand who I will be sitting next to is not really plus sizes he does have a belly but that's it, so I think we should be ok, seeing as there is none sitting on the other side of me:D

My DH and I were a bit bigger when we flew in October. Last week when we flew we were both much more comfortable. I used to be a size 20/22 and he wore a 40 waist. Now I am 14/16 and he wears a 34 waist. I do have to say we fit better in the plane seats now. They are still uncomfortable though.

But to answer your question. I have seen many plus sized people fly with Delta without any conflicts. If it is just the two of you there should be no problem. I would suggest you sit nearest the aisle so you will be more comfortable. Before sitting down raise the arm that is in between the two seats and that makes it much more comfortable. I was getting to the end of the seat belt length in October when I wore a 20/22 if that helps you at all.

Don't worry about it you will be fine. They make airplane seats uncomfortable for EVERYONE!

Have fun!

I'm guessing but, if you are larger than average and are traveling with someone smaller than average, you can propose to sit together and you should be OK.

If you end up sitting with strangers and one of them complains, all bets are off. Usually the one who complains has to move, but if the flight is full, it is anyone's guess as to what happens next. A person denied one whole seat may summon the complaint resolution officer and demand compensation but a person bumped for not purchasing all the space he needs might not be able to.

Not just some, it is most. Unless the OP has opted for the 2 seats together part of theaisle, they could request that they purchase an extra seat. If they requested the 3 seat section, they could have someone assigned to that middle seat at which point they could be asked to purchase the extra seat.
I have watched the SWA show and did not feel the people were humiliated them in the least, if anything they appeared to go out of their way to be nice. I have nothing against anyone, but, I can tell you I do not wish to fly cheek to cheek with anyone I don't know.

I agree with Gail, I don't like to be too close to a stranger.

I was once sandwiched between two very large men (One quite overweight and one was just a really HUGE guy) on a cross country flight booked last minute (so I had a middle seat), and it was so uncomfortable. They both put the armrests up and each took about 2-3 inches of shoulder room out of my seat. I ended up sitting sideways the entire flight, and had a bachache for the next three weeks. I learned though. Now I keep the armrest down, and if a person can't fit into their alloted space, it's their problem to solve, not mine.

With fares being so low these days, I can't imagine why a larger person wouldn't simply take advantage and buy the extra space for themselves! There is a woman that posts on these boards from time to time who has begun purchasing three seats together for her and her husband to share. It's much less expensive than a first class seat, and they know they will feel quite comfortable that way :)

That would be me. Although now it is 3 seats for my husband, 13 month old dd (in her carseat) and I to share. We will be lifting both armrests. We don't mind squishing together as a family but I don't believe in making a stranger uncomfortable. It wouldn't be a pleasant/comfortable flight for me or for them. To the OP, in the situation you described, you and your traveling companion will be fine in your seats. DH and I are fine in two seats together on that type of plane, 2-3-2 type seating of a 767. When it was just the two of us and we had to be in a 3 seat row (757's, 737's) and there was the potential for a stranger to be seating in that row with us, that became a situation where we would purchase 3 seats for 2 people. I speak from experience, you will be fine.

I'am a flight attendant for a subsidary of delta. If you have the two seats together you should be fine. I would ask a flight attendant for a seatbelt ext. just so you are more comfortable, I have seen a lot of people try to make it work with the regular belts and that has to be uncomfortable. I have seen regular size bussiness men not able to fit. Some seatbelts are shorter then the others. We do have a FAA rule that you can not sit in an exit seat with an seatbelt ext. that has happend over the past few years.
If you are truely concern and are sitting in the section with 2 seats one window, one aisle. I would put the largeest person next to the window and the smaller on the aisle, that way the larger person can share a portion of the others seat and not have their body in the aisle where a F/A will more and likley notice it or be in the way of the F/A doing their job.
If you ever consider buying a first class ticket for the room if you are a large person DON'T just buy 2 seats in coach you will fit better the first class seats you have to be able to fit into it you can not raise the armrest so if you are large it would be very uncomfortable and just not work. My FIL is a large man and has the means to buy a first class ticket but he is more comfortable with 2 seats in coach then first class.
Just a funny note my MIL and FIL were coming back from Hawaii and they had a lay over the flight was over sold and they were looking for people to give up there seats for cash and a later flight. He went up to the counter and gave up his extra seat. It was just an hour and half flight no big deal. They both got on and made some extra money.
