I am sure many of you are planning on using a tax return for your Spring Break / Easter Disney trip. I am. My trip is planned 3/20-3/27, What i am hearing is making me feel slightly (very) uneasy. Will my tax return be delayed??? Why should IRS take 7-8 additional weeks to return our money??? I have a room- only reservation, so i can pay on arrival, but how are the rest of you planning on adjusting??? :sad2:

I don't know but it usually takes 6-8 wks even if you file at the earliest time possible and you mail it. It might be a little less if you get auto deposit for your refund... and the other thing is you could go somewhere... and get them to do it and you can I think..... get it back or something like in a few weeks. 2-4 maybe.. It has been a long time since I had to have it ASAP...
Maybe someone in the TAX Prep industry will be able to offer you a bit more info.

You could call the IRS and ask them directly what are your options to get it returned quicker until you get some other feedback.

Most people don't get their paperwork from their employers until the end of January as that is the last possible date to give it to employees... and you need that before you can do any of the paper work.

If you e-file using something like Turbo Tax or Tax Cut (what we use through H&R Block) you should get it back in about 2-4 weeks, but this also includes having it automatically deposited into checking or savings. We did this last year and it worked wonderfully and went smoothly. We plan to e-file again.

I believe the reason that people are concerned about the possibility of a delay is due to the Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT) and the efforts of the Congress to pass legislation to change the minimum income level before it kicks in. Without changes, it reverts back to the original income levels from when it was first passed, which is VERY low (it is not automatically adjusted for inflation & each year they've done a 1 year "fix" for it... but haven't agreed on a "fix" for this year as of this date).

As a result of all of that, the IRS has been saying that it may have to delay the ACCEPTANCE and the PROCESSING of tax refunds, as they say it takes (if memory serves me correctly) 7 weeks lead time to reprogram the computers, etc, & be ready to go with the corrected information.

How that will impact your refund timing and therefore your trip, I can't hazard a guess. All I can suggest is that you stay tuned to your favorite general news website for further updates.

Here's hoping that it won't have any effect on your vacation so that you may Enjoy the Magic!
