Need help with ideas for wallpaper border for my family room. I just painted it a coffee colour which I LOVE but I need some idea for borders now.

I have some lighthouse stuff in there and I like that but not too much of it KWIM? I have a lot of travel type stuff like antique suitcases etc.

This is the room as blank canvas.

Does anyone have any ideas for a border? What type I should be looking at?

Borders are very out these days. Jazz up the room with some funky pillows, nice pictures on the walls and skip the border.

Is your picture with the new paint job? It looks like white walls on my computer but colors are never what they seem over the internet.

I'm not a big border fan, but I do like the kind that is just textural (with a design) that you can paint to match your walls, or paint a different color, I suppose.

nope that is before I painted it I just finished painting it.

I would like to do a border because I cant do crown moulding right now. I will later though.

I agree with finding other ways to theme the room. Borders are ok when they first go up but the endless repetition gets old quick, IMO.

My advice would be to go with textured paint/different colored walls...I would just work with the paint to add an interesting effect. Instead of a border.

I agree with this. Curtains, pillows and a painting....a nice area rug, all around a color theme would do wonders. I also love the metal wall hangings like these http://kirklands.com/Default.asp?cid=666893320.27737.238731 . Or, paint 1 wall a contrasting color to give the room more interest. Good luck.

Are you talking about a border at the top of the wall where crown molding would go? I would do an anaglypta paintable border (a fairly simple one) and paint it white. It will give more the look of molding than a regular border. Another option would be to just wait until you have the time to put in crown molding. I would really stay away from the printed borders.

Not that I know anything about decorating (shut up!), but I kind of agree with the "no border" thing. I don't hate them at all so don't misundestand. I really like the idea of painting one wall an accent color. Pick a color you really like in your couch or on a pillow you love and go with that on the one wall.

I agree that an accent wall is a lovely idea. Maybe you can paint one wall a dulche de leche color and cover it in coffee stained maps or something similar. If you're dead set on the border, then the one you have is cute.
