Hi everyone! I know that people like to decorate their doors on the Disney Cruise Line because the doors are magnetic, but do people do this at the parks, too? I'd like to know if Disney allows affixing anything to the outside door, or if this is against the rules. I can understand if it is, since I'd be afraid of paint peeling. Anybody do this? If so, any hints on what to do? My son is almost 3, and would get a kick out of decorating it, plus it would allow him to recognize the door among all the rest. (We're staying at Animal Kingdom- Kidani Village if it matters) Thanks all! :)

Door decorating is not allowed at any DVC resorts. Some of the other resorts do allow it - I am not sure how people affix things with out causing damage. You are also not allowed to decorate you balcony or have any balloons at AKL as it can upset the animals.

Sorry this was probably not what you wanted to hear.

As akl-fan said door decorating is not allowed at DVC resorts, but you can do something inside the villa. We go down at Christmas and I always bring my Disney decorations along with command hangers. They really work well and don't leave any marks. I know it's not the same but maybe your little one would like to do something inside.

Enjoy The Magic!!

some resort doors are metal, but some are not. If the doors are metal at Kidani you could certainly allow your child to decorate the INSIDE of the door with magnets (no adhesives).

Thanks so much for your quick responses! I'm glad to know ahead of time that it's not allowed. I figured they would be reluctant to allow anything since it might damage the door, so I'm not upset. :) Also, thanks for letting me know about the balcony thing, too! I wouldn't have thought about scaring the animals, but it makes sense!

The last time I stayed at POP, there were many window decorations in individual rooms for the other guests to see and enjoy!

they will allow you to decorate the windows but you cannot fasten anything adhesive to the doors. This includes window clings, which are find on windows but not on painted surfaces. In a resort like AKV there are no windows facing the hallway to decorate. It's the door or nothing.

It was good to point out that AKL and AKV are also going to clamp down on balcony decorations.

It's not a DVC property but we have decorated the outside of our door at WL. Actually, we did not do it. The staff did. We were staying CL for DGD's birthday and I asked the staff if they would put up decorations I brought with me. I brought command hooks, adhesives and putty type stuff. All things that did not leave behind any marks. I gave it all to the staff and told them they could do it however they wanted and left for dinner.

When I came back they had it all done, including 2-3 signs on the outside of the door.

So it had to have been ok with someone.

Just curious but why does DVC say no to it?

A while back, DVC notified all members that they wanted the membership and other guests to be able to enjoy the design and decorations of the resort without anything "getting in the way" (my words, not theirs). So the asked that members not put any decorations that would be seen by the public in their villas. They were free to decorate inside the villa (within reason and not causing any damage to the villas). But not patios, doors, windows.

As a DVC owner and lover, I totally agree with this!!!. I love the "theme" of the DVC resort I have chosen to stay at, rather than some strangers idea of "nice decorations".

Ah, now I understand. They are talking about what folks would do to decorate their personal residence, since this is, for a week or two every year "yours" sort of. In a round a bout way. So I can see what they are asking.

It's not really scaring the animals. It's because if the balloon would fall into the savannah, the animals may eat it. The same reason they don't have plastic straws at AK.
