Decided not to use ME for trip to hotel but can I still use for trip tp airport?

We decided to start our trip a few days early and stay in Downtown Disney. I am booked to use Magical Express for my stay at the Contemoporary but now I wont need to.

So my question is do I need to let the ME counter know in order to schedule my return trip the following week?

Yes you can ride DME back to the airport only.

You can make the arrangements at the welcoming area upon arrival, or you can make the arrangements at your resort at least 2 days before checkout.

For both round trip DME and one way back via DME, verify that the pickup time is correct* on the paper you get the morning one day before checkout. If missing or incorrect, go down to the front desk to get a corrected paper confirmation before starting the day's activities.

* About 3 hours before your plane departs (4 hours for international or charter).

You most certainly can use DME for your return ride. If you haven't booked it already, you can do it at the CR. But be sure to do it a few days before the end of your stay.
