Deceptive DVC Benefits offering (Africa Trek Tour discount)

OP reporting back here! Well it took several days for DVC to get back to me following my email regarding this issue but a manager did call today. While they stated that there is language covering this type of thing in their “general disclosure” covering ALL DVC benefit offerings, they did go out of their way to find a solution for me. Thanks for your interest and support. Satisfied DVC member :)

When I look at the Disney website under tours and events, I find out the price for WAT is from $189.00 to $249.00. What price were you basing your discount on?

During the “season” we are going (first week of March) the cost of the tour prior to taxes is $189. Same price regardless of the time of day. However they were only willing to honor the DVC discount (off of this price) for tours later in the day, not for our mid-morning tour.

Sorry, had to agree not to disclose (which I think is a reasonable request) but I felt the resolution was fair. Am also not sure if their decision had more to do with my argument or that I’ve been a DVC member for 17 years, or perhaps a combination of both. Hopefully they’ll consider adding a bit of language to prevent future confusion!

Is the discount blocked just for DVC or are all discounts blocked? If not all, perhaps you have a Disney Visa or an AP that you could use to get a discount instead?

I hope you and your party enjoy the WAT. It was one of the best “extra” things we ever did at WDW.

IMO it's their game and their rules. While I agee it'd be great not to spin one's wheels expecting the discount only to find out later it's not applicable at that time, I don't think it reasonable to be truly upset about it either. Then giving a discount simply because of a squeaky wheel is far worse in this situation than just saying no, IMO. Not saying it was inappropriate of the OP to ask or be concerned that it wasn't more clear, just that there is a limit as to how aggravated or concerned to be and that giving additional consideration without changing the rules is simply inappropriate on Disney or DVC's part.

I disagree slightly. The legal department of Disney is quite good and the verbiage written on the exclusion of discount list should be much more clear. The ambiguity of their words leads to customer unhappiness. While this is a business, what they are trying to sell is the idea of happiness and to not address the squeaky wheel individually, is a bad business move.

To be inconsistent is to be inappropriate. Greasing one squeaky wheel doesn't help anyone. The only reasonable way to give a discount to someone complaining is to give it to everyone up to that point or not at all. Then, if necessary, change the wording going forward.
