December

It depends.....if you are from S. Fl. then yess!!! You would need gloves and scarves and a parka! If you are from up North...then you might be okay with a jacket. Everyone from up north always says we over react when it gets cold. But at night it will get into 40's to 30's during the day 50's to 60's. Hope this helps

We are from CA and used to warm weather.

We had an Illuminations dinner last year, just after Thanksgiving, and it was FREEZING! Wind whipping off the water, really cold.

As the guests were arriving, the event manager offered me the option of space heaters, for $1200. more. I was torn in the moment, but I didn't want the guests to freeze, so I said yes, bring them in. The heaters did NOTHING to warm people up, the waiters insisted on placing them far away from the tables for safety reasons, so the only way you could get warm was to go stand right next to a heater. One heater never worked, they couldn't get it going all night, but still charged me for it, which I found annoying.

We went and bought Disney parka-like jackets at the little store by the back door of Epcot and everyone made due, but it was COLD. Not reccommended.

I see you are from NJ or VA and from your username it looks like you attend/attended Virginia Tech. I don't think an outside reception would be too cold for you! I am from Virginia and am used to having a colder winter, so when I go to Disney World in December and january I think it's warm...just a personal opinon though! We are actually having part of our reception outside in January. Im a little worried that it will be a little too cold for our guests, but we're hoping everything works out. We are just telling them to be prepared for cold weather. Also, if it is too cold, the convention manager in our case has the right to move our reception to an indoor backup area. If you have an outside reception area that you love, I would say go for it and hopefully the temperatures will be in your favor!

I wouldn't do it, honestly. For our early November reception, we came very close to having dancing outdoors, and in retrospect it did turn out to be warm enough on that particular night that it would have been awesome. However, looking at average temps and even at what the temps were predicted to be just a week out from the event, I would have been very stressed out about the weather without a good backup plan.

I don't think I would plan an *evening* outdoor reception any later than October.

Thanks for all the advice! It seems like all the times I have open there is something that concerns me about the weather! :confused3 August too hot for dancing, December too cold for dancing!

I will tell you that when we were there last December it was in the 80s one of those days. That happened to be the day that I was wearing a sweater for our engagement photos. Just so you know it is one extreme to the other. But when you are dancing, you are burning calories and maybe you would not know it. I would have coffee and hot cocoa if you decide to have it outside.

Yeah i have been in december where we had high 70s for many of the days. The problem with December is its very hit and miss with the temperature. I am having a december wedding (5th) with an outdoor ceremony mid afternoon, indoor reception at the boardwalk but we also have an outdoor patio where people can go should it be warm enough and an outdoor illuminations dessert party.

Maybe if you did outdoors you could serve coffee and cocoa like Jonette said, it give it a festive feel with drinks like mulled wine.

We were married Dec. 4th and it was perfect outside. 88 degrees at 10am and that night it was perfect for an outdoor reception. I now wish we had planned a DP for Illuminations or a Wishes Cruise it was really that nice out.

Later on in the month it gets cooler but early on you should be just fine. It was actually a few degrees too warm for the wedding for my tastes!

Faeriegirl - that is so good to know as my wedding is on the 5th December this year. Im indoors for mst of it but im hoping it will be plenty warm enough for the dessert party!

Although as all my guests are from England, it could be 20 degrees and they would think thats warm!

We had our welcome party December 2nd, at the GF. And it was a bit chilly. Even our guests from WI were saying it was chilly. If you looking to be outside in just your gown, I'd deffinatly rethink it. If you're planning on a parka party then go for it.
