December WISH Thread: 'tis the season... for healthy living

I missed out on all church activities because I had an asthma attack and I am still feeling the residual effects. Being outside in the freezing cold for the live nativity wasn’t an option. I feel bad about it, but I have to listen to my body. I plan to return to school tomorrow for Merry Grinchmas and hope that I will be well.

Good Morning and Happy Motivation Monday!!!! What’s keeping you going this week?!?

I am hopeful to stay on track so that I can enjoy alllllll the treats at the annual cookie party day that my friends and I have on Sunday!!! In addition to baking cookies we also bring a snack so lots of yummy special treats to go around!

Have a great day everyone!!!

I got Poa on the quiz.

Saturday was a run around kind of day. I did Jazzercise in the morning and then we went grocery shopping, went to JC Penny's, went to Target to get a few things, then Malley's (a local chocolate store). After all that we stopped by the rehab place to give DH's grandmother the stuff that she wanted us to get for her. That night I ate the Peanut Butter Royals (like peanut butter cups but small figure like ones). I ate the whole box and then proceeded to feel sick the rest of the night and all day yesterday. That is what I get for eating the whole box but they were so good. They are gone now so i will move on now.

I got free spirited Tramp.

I had a do-nothing weekend, even tho it was the busiest weekend with holiday festivities in and around town. Saturday, we had another wicked windstorm and with a king high tide mid-morning everything on the waterside downtown got pummeled. I managed to get out of the house for morning coffee and to pick up the last gift at the spice store, but that was it. Sunday, I went into town for lunch but couldn't muster energy for anything else. I had been feeling poorly all week, so hopefully all of the rest over the weekend was restorative enough to be back on track.

This weekend was the ultimate in “the days are long but the years are short.” The season is overstimulating the kids so the weekend was a lot for DD. But it’s ok just have to keep them focused through the end of the week. And have to keep myself focused as next week will hopefully be quiet at work.

I hope that everyone who is feeling under the weather is doing better ❤️

I know it’s such a hectic time @ShannyMcB to have littles!! Your going to get through it but it is so stressful when your in it!!

Speaking of stress-how are we all feeling? One week out from Christmas Eve-it’s so hard to believe!! Are you ready? Let’s hear the good and the bad of your Christmas prep for topic Tuesday!

I am in a pretty good place-better than I have ever been actually! I have some wrapping to do, cookie party Sunday and have to get some cash for my games on Christmas Day and put my games together. Nothing extravagant, just fun ways for adult kids to win money and gift cards!!

We took an unexpected foster this evening. A friend in rescue had a foster family back out on her and was stuck with the dog…all her foster spots in her house are full and the dog seemed like a good fit for us so we agreed to step up for her. She has a bad respiratory infection and is on crate rest. I did think she broke out of her crate earlier, but I think I just didn’t have both door latched-I hope. She would not be our first escape artist, but i prefer dogs who don’t need special crates lol.

I'm mostly done shopping (still a few gift cards I need to pick up) but I'm not as far on wrapping as I usually am at this point.

Cards that needed mailed were actually done early this year, but I still have a few neighbor ones to do.

I think splitting the decorations last year (into odd and even year bins) was successful - decorating was less overwhelming, and the house doesn't feel quite so cluttered.

I do feel like the Christmas season had been short this year, due to Thanksgiving being so late.

I am doing ok here. Finally got DH on board with Christmas eve with his family but are still figuring out with cooking on how to incorporate his grandmother. She can come to our house but last year she had an issue getting in the house with just one small step and this year she needs much more help and I don't think she will be able to even with our help. I think I will send the family to visit her while I cook and I will visit on Christmas day either before or after my moms (she is doing it early this year). I still need to buy everything to cook and I also need to wrap but I might delegate half of it to DD and her friend to do. I also need to bake cookies but I am scaling back on the ones I will make. Each person gets to pick their favorite and then I will make chocolate chip and sugar cookies (but I am not going to double the recipe this year). I have some how managed to temper my expectation this year and I am really going with the flow so far. Usually by now I am a complete mess and stressed out to the point I end up taking an extra day or two off to get everything done.

Not only is the turnaround from Thanksgiving to Christmas short by a week, but we're doing Christmas early, with Thurs/Fri/Sat at the cabin. It occurred to me yesterday that I'll come back from Christmas, and then it will be Christmas.

Presents are all ready, except one thing that hasn't been delivered yet. I will finally actually start baking cookies today - as long as I don't lose power. We're having another windstorm, so fingers crossed. I'm signing out from work midday tomorrow and have a massage appointment and then a pedicure. Merry Christmas to me.

We'll be doing some hiking around the lake while at the cabin and may drive up to Hurricane Ridge where it may snow, so a bit of white will be lovely.

Doing ok here overall. Saturday will be massive cookie day and Sunday will be Christmas with my in-laws and then finishing any grocery shopping. I have a half day of work on Christmas Eve so I will be making the side dishes for dinner before heading to the big seven fish event at DH’s cousins house.
This week is nutty…karate classes, dance classes, concerts, dropping off some gifts I’m tired thinking about it. And DH has been working late and I keep having to remind him that will not fly the rest of the week. Took a few mins to do my nails then had to remind myself they will likely be destroyed by Thursday…oh well they look cute at the moment.
Have not gotten in as much movement as I would like and my waist line is feeling it…sigh. Guess I’ll be one of those people hitting the gym in early January.

Whooooohoooooo Wednesday!!! What are you celebrating today?!!

I am celebrating a few things-our foster is doing so well both mentally and physically. Cough is improving and she’s becoming a bit playful, especially with DH! Also celebrating one more day of work after today then I am on leave for Christmas!!

I am woohooing that I have 2 days of work after today and tomorrow will be an easy day. We are having a holiday lunch with just our team so a good portion of the afternoon will having a good time with coworkers. We all like to play games (we used do a game lunch hour once a month) so we will do that with lunch and desserts.

I am also woohooing that DH and his mom have decided to still do Christmas. Both were waffling on it. I finally told we need to know so I can get the food. So it is finally set.

Not sure this is a woohoo or not but We have a place for DH's grandmother for when insurance boots her from rehab at the end of the week (unless we get the appeal approved). It is an assisted living facility that is at the same place she is now. So she won't have to go far. We do need to get her furniture there though. The reason why I am not sure if it is a woohoo or not is because they still need to do their assessment. They could come back with she needs too much help and they can't accommodate her. In this case she will need to go in a nursing home. Rehab is are the ones telling us Assisted living but also telling us that she needs 50-75% assistance. We will get more of this info today.

Woohoo....I actually baked some cookies yesterday. They are just soft gingerbread balls, not even cut into gingerbread men, but I think they turned out pretty good.

Woohoo... work wraps up in a couple hours, then it is massage, pedicure and more cookie baking. Let the holiday commence!

Today I'm thankful for all the baking shows I've watched over the years, because I have gotten better at baking from watching them. The cookies all turned out ok, but of course I can think of ways to make them all better.

I am also thankful that the mud slide that closed the highway yesterday, very close to where we are headed, has been cleared. With that bit of road blocked the route would have been a big loop to get to the lake from the other side and would have made an hour and a half drive three hours. Fingers crossed that nothing else happens, the next few days are forecast "chance of rain" not storms so hopefully that will help.

I am thankful for a slow leisurely start to the day today, to get the last few errands and chores taken care of.

Happy Thankful Thursday!!! What are you feeling thankful for today?!

I am so thankful today is my last day of work!! It feels like the last day…everything is happening and everything is going wrong…and I am all alone from 1pm-5pm ughhhhh!!!!!!

Also thankful for a quick and painless eye exam this morning! Have new glasses coming for 2025 that will hopefully help me see better while driving at night!!! I need all the help I can get!!
