December use year+50% rule=🤬😩😱😢

I'm the minority. I have great self control IRL but when I'm booking my DVC trips, I have no issues of borrowing whatever I can and making my stay and accommodations longer and bigger LOL
However, the 50% rule has kept me in check. I book what I need, within reason and make sure I have enough points for my other trips.
For instance, I currently have four nights in a one bedroom at GFVs in October, followed by 7 nights at BWVs in a studio. If no restrictions, I may have tried to keep us in a one bedroom at GFVs and then not have enough points for a January trip (I have Sept UY).
I have a love/hate relationship with the borrowing rule LOL

This is me. It has kept us in check this year. I have only borrowed half of next year’s points.

I have tracked our points spending year over and year and it seems like until this, we swing wildly one year conservative and the next year we go wild. So of course that forces things next year but it seems to be the pattern we are in.

That is exactly how one would think it works, me too! Alas, no. The system is forcing me to borrow 2022 points as they are allotted Dec 1. You see my pouty face?
What dates are you trying to book? Eleven months from now is February 2023. That falls in your December 2022 UY which runs from 12/01/2022 - 11/30/2023. You would not need to borrow 2022 points if you're booking February.

Now, if you're trying to book a November, 2022 reservation or earlier in 2022, then that would fall in your December 2021 UY and then yes, you would only be allowed to borrow 50% of your annual allotment of points from your 2022 UY.

If you are trying to book a stay that will happen prior to 12/1/2022, you would have to borrow from 2022. You cannot borrow from 2023 for that vacation.

Only if you are booking a vacation that will occur between 12/1/22 and 11/30/23, would you borrow from 2023. 2022 would be the current use year for that vacation.

What dates are you trying to get?
Well, I didn't want to bore people with the details, but here goes: Yesterday I spent nearly 3 hrs online trying to figure this out. I logged out and back in many times. This situation defies logic and that is why I am confused and (now) you all are confused. I have 200 Dec UY points. Having the points for 2021 drop in the regular account just a few months ago. I had wanted to use about 400 pts for Jan/Feb 2023. I was denied repeatedly by the online system. Despite my many attempts to correct it, it continued to tell me that the 2022 pts were to be borrowed and I could only use 100. In the end, I down-sized my trip and used 300 pt: 2021(200 pts) and 2022(100pts). So what I am gathering now is that this has not happened to other Dec UY DVC folks who have booked a Jan/Feb 2023 vacation, is that right?

That sounds really odd to me. It should have let you use all 400 (200 banked 2021 points plus the 200 2022 points). You shouldn’t need to borrow December 2022 points since January and February 2023 are part of your 2022 UY. I would call MS first thing tomorrow morning if you can. They should be able to straighten this out.

Did you bank the 2021 UY points yet? Those points will not show up for booking for Jan and Feb 2023 trips until you do as they currently expire November 30th, 2022

If you did not, then I think what happened is that the system was using your 2022 points and telling you you needed to borrow the 2023 points, which was limited to 100.

Until you actually bank the 2021 points into 2022 UY, they are not available for that trip since it’s in your 2022 UY.

That does seem odd. Are you sure that you borrowed 2022 points? Did you bank the 2021 points before booking? If you had banked the 2021 points, you would have had 400 points in your 2022 UY (200 banked + 200 of your 2022 alloacation). It almost sounds as if 200 points from your 2022 UY were used and you borrowed 100 from 2023 with 200 points still sitting in 2021.

Well, I can't thank you all enough for being persistent in your confusion about my situation. I called and the situation was resolved. I had banked the 2021 points, but for unexplained reasons, the booking system ignored them and went right to the 2022 points and indeed was trying to borrow from 2023, not 2022. Very odd. I have never had this happen before. But had I not whined to you all, I never would have thought to investigate further, SO THANK YOU!!!

Awesome. Good thing you had that December UY, eh? ;)

It's always nice when these things work out, especially discovering you had 200 more points than you realized (and the relief when you find out you would have lost 200 points had you not realized what had happened.) I bet you'll never let this happen again!

Happy it worked out. I was following this thread and happy all could help you. I love the dis!

Truthfully, the Dis boards are the best Disney resource. I'm an introvert and I don't post often, but whenever I read any tidbit of Disney gossip, I tell my husband that I will check the Dis boards and get the real information. So many great people here!
