Okay. I have a December UY and I'm at a loss as to how that put us at a bigger disadvantage than any other UY. :confused3

It doesn't - unless you are in a constant state of borrowing to book your vacation or planned an every other or every third year visit. And that, of course, applies to all years equally.

@oswald1 - feel for you. We all hope the restriction ends soon.

I'm the minority. I have great self control IRL but when I'm booking my DVC trips, I have no issues of borrowing whatever I can and making my stay and accommodations longer and bigger LOL
However, the 50% rule has kept me in check. I book what I need, within reason and make sure I have enough points for my other trips.
For instance, I currently have four nights in a one bedroom at GFVs in October, followed by 7 nights at BWVs in a studio. If no restrictions, I may have tried to keep us in a one bedroom at GFVs and then not have enough points for a January trip (I have Sept UY).
I have a love/hate relationship with the borrowing rule LOL

It's interesting the main effect of this post has been for those of us with December use years to start worrying there is some issue we don't know about.

Other than the fact that we will only have a 31 day use year at the end of the contract, you mean?

Me, too... 3 resorts all Dec. UY... while the 50% cap on borrowing may be an issue, I don't see how that is worse for me than any other UY.

What am I missing?

Add me to the December UY people who are confused as to what gives us a bigger disadvantage with regards to the 50% rule or at all. I am truly puzzled.

It will be a 62-day UY (Dec. 1, 2041 - Jan. 31,2042 in the case of 2042 resorts). But that has been the case from the inception.

oh...just because we are at the 11 month mark for booking for next winter and all the 2022 points are borrowed, so we can only use 50%. So sorry to confuse all my fellow Dec UY friends, that wasn't intentional.

Sorry, didn't mean to confuse people. Just my whiney rant at the 11 month mark for next winter and needing to borrow 2022 points to get the full number of days I want, but can't due to the 50% rule.

Next winter, 11 months from now, falls in your Dec 2022 UY. You can borrow up to half of your 2023 UY's points for that reservation. Being that you've owned and dealt with a December UY for over 20 years, I'm sure you're aware of that but I'm pointing that out just in case. December UYs are so hard to wrap your head around!

That is exactly how one would think it works, me too! Alas, no. The system is forcing me to borrow 2022 points as they are allotted Dec 1. You see my pouty face?

If you are trying to book a stay that will happen prior to 12/1/2022, you would have to borrow from 2022. You cannot borrow from 2023 for that vacation.

Only if you are booking a vacation that will occur between 12/1/22 and 11/30/23, would you borrow from 2023. 2022 would be the current use year for that vacation.

What dates are you trying to get?

One of my contracts is a Dec UY and I agree that is “seems” awful because you your points don’t come until the end of the year. Even though New Years is really just an arbitrary point in time, it “feels better” to get your points earlier in the calendar year. Dec points almost fell like next year points. They seem even worse if you are always borrowing, because the new points feel so far away.
