Hi! Have been reading about DVC ownership this morning and my brain is taxed! We have been 6 times in 5 years, family of 4, girls 5 and 6. Will likely continue, enjoy Disney and Disney standards. Have been considering a DVC and with bonus points to cover a cruise in '09, would strongly consider. Have an AP.

Having said all that we've always stayed off property in my dad's timeshare and travel pretty economically. Have tried to take a holiday trip last 3 years, but not been able to with business. Have an existing ressie for $139/nt ($973), S room (SV not avail) at AKL. Wondering about renting points for a SV room. If I'm reading the chart right, need 171 ~$12 ($2052) for first week of December. And if I understand we can get DDP with a rental?

Any other ideas or feedback? Thanks so much for your help!

if offsite is ok, then there will always be cheaper options than DVC.

a 1BR with savanna view is actually 205 pts for the first week of dec. (171 is for standard view.)

a hotel room-sized studio at AKV for the week (SV) would be 101 pts...but would have 1 queen bed and a full sized pullout sofa for the kids.

(thanks to LisaS for 1BR pics.)

And if I understand we can get DDP with a rental?

yes, the DVC member will have to add DDP for you (as you probably know, member services will not speak to non-members). you won't pay for the DDP till you arrive but it does need to be added beforehand.

you can also have the member arrange for magical express if you are flying in...

Just to add that there may not be anything available yet at that time. That is the very most popular time for DVC stays, so switching to a DVC rental might not be possible any longer. I'm giong to guess it's probably all booked up, but you'll never know until you try.

oops - i forgot to mention this.

definitely don't cancel your existing ressie until you have a rental confirmation in hand...
