Do you take some of your own stuff to decorate your room, door, verandah? Are there any notable restrictions on what you are allowed to do?

Are there any special things that go on because it's the Christmas season that I should be aware of in advance? Something that might call for a gift, or a special outfit?

TIA. This place is great!

Hopefully they will do the tree lighting on Castaway Cay this year like they did last. It was very cool...the ship would stay until dark, and then the captain would turn on the lights before you leave. There were also very cool decorations on the island. My husband just had to get one of the tram decorated with reindeer antlers!

when do the decorations go up?? we are on the wonder and disembarking on thanksgiving day. i know the parks have thier stuff up before thanksgiving and would be an unexpected treat if the ship did it too.

Yes, I agree...that was so neat!
I really like the snow on CC! That was a neat surprise!

Main NO-NO that we often associate with Christmas is candles. They are absolutely NOT acceptable.

Do you mean 'no candles' in your stateroom?

We were on the 11/15/03 Magic and the greenery was put up before we boarded the ship. The HUGE tree was put up & decorated our first night at sea. It was a fantastic surprise in the morning. :) Since it was our first time on the ship, we thought that we were lost when we saw it. It was only after we checked the digital pictures from the day before that we realized what had happened.

I know it's a bummer. You might want to look for some I saw on TV that are battery operated but have a flicker that looks real--sort of like a pillar candle that has burned down below the rim. But those wouldn't have the scent.

DCL's not being spoilsports, it's just that the fire danger is too great. Your safety at sea is worth way more than the atmosphere of the candles.

I think it's NO CANDLES, period.

A large group of Dis'ers sailed on the 7 day Magic over Christmas 2003 and many brought personal decorations. We all shared ideas and came up with some pretty cool decorations. The ship was also incredibly beautiful. Simply breathtaking with huge trees and lighting and a 5 or 6 foot gingerbread house by the staircase leading up to Shutters.

Some of the Dis'ers brought Christmas tree lights for their portholes or verandas. You have to bring the hooks with suction cups because you don't want to mar the wood in the staterooms.

Others brought little trees with decorations. We ordered a pre-lit tabletop Christmas tree from Shirley at the Perfect Gift and, also, a tabletop sleigh with fresh cut greenery so we had that Christmas scent in our stateroom. Shirley (as always) did a beautiful job and our stateroom looked lovely. I bought a very inexpensive Christmas runner in Holiday Red and then put the decorations on that on the sideboard as you walked into our room.

We also brought garland and other non-perishable decorations from the local Party store and used them in the room and on the railings outside our door. We also made Magnets for our door which were personalized for our family and no one took them. The bonus was that this was the easiest cruise ever to find our stateroom!!

One of the highlights of the cruise for us was decorating our gingerbread house. That was such a fun family activity and I believe (although I may be wrong) that they offered it on the cruises throughout December. Talk about making the room look festive plus DH, DD and I had a great time. That house went in between the two florals pieces. Word to the wise: Sign up early!

On Christmas Eve, we decorated our table and put out the small presents we had hand-carried for DD and DS. The one request that DH made was that we brought our family stockings so we laid those out, too. Our steward made a beautiful towel angel as a surprise and the angel became part of our tabletop display.

We brought gift bags and tissue paper flat in our suitcase (for our presents to the children and each other); I can't speak for Santa's magic and how he wrapped his presents. DD wanted me to make sure I told you that, somehow, Santa was able to deliver some presents on board the ship. Is he not amazing? They also offered gift wrapping on board for gifts purchased in Mickey's Mates or Treasure Ketch.

When we disembarked, we left the inexpensive party store decorations there which allowed extra space in our suitcases for new purchases. I am so glad that we took the time and effort to plan ahead to decorate our room. It really did bring its own special magic. I hope this helps with some decorating ideas.

Anyone know how long they leave them up? We're on the 1/4/05 Magic (4-day) & just wondering if they'll still be up then. Really doesn't matter either way, just wondering.

Melody - thanks for sharing those great pictures. I'm really looking forward to spending Christmas on the Magic!

We were on the Jan 5-9, 2003 Wonder and none of the decorations were up.

Mary - you're quite welcome! :)

I really wondered about spending Christmas aboard the Magic as I am definitely a Christmas lover and have lots of decorations and special mementos to display!! But, it was special and wonderful and had its "own" Magic. I would not have missed it!! Six DIS families all met aboard the 2003 cruise and have all rebooked for Christmas 2005. It will be a wonderful time!

We were on the 12-27-03 to 1-3-04 NYE cruise, the decorations were being taken down as we got off the ship.
As for candles, I wouldn't even use them at home. As my login name implies, I work in TV, news specifically. We have had 4 fatal fires here this year because of candles. A lot of churchs now even use the battery powered fake candles. For emergency lighting in a power outage I purchased several LED flashlights, they have a low power LED instead of a light bulb. The batteries seem to last forever. I got them 3 years ago for a trip to Disneyland, ironically we had a 30 hour power outage a few days before we left, we used the LED flashlight as a nightlight for my daughter, left it on all night, and for all 5 nights at Disneyland. Have used it ever since as a normal flashlight and still have not replaced the orginal batteries.

Good thinking regarding candle safety.

anyone know when decorations go UP?? we are on 4 day disembarking on thanksgiving day. I'm guessing that they will start going up during our cruise but would love to hear from someone who has actually sailed during this time. there is this small amount of anticipatory hope because parks have thier decorations up a few weeks before thanksgiving altho official holiday activities don't start until that weekend.
