December 24, 2011 Celebrating a Magical 6-Night Caribbean Christmas Cruise

We still have school until the 22nd. We also don't have family near us so we don't have to worry about fitting Christmas in so that's kinda good. There'll be gifts under the tree when we get home and our oldest daughter and her husband will come by then.

Can't believe it's single digits....

DS12 has school until 12/16. We have our extended family Christmas on 12/18 at our home. On 12/23, we leave our home and go to FIL's home in the middle of the state. On 12/24, FIL will drive us to the port, 2 hours away.
He'll then come back and pick us up on 12/30.(hopefully)
School then begins again on 1/2.

Happy packing/travels to everyone with your pre-cruise prep!

The school I teach at has school through Dec 23rd here... fortunately husband and parents have the 23rd off, so they will be going to the airport early to check all the baggage and get through security first. That way, all I have to do right when school lets out is drive to the airport, park, and get myself through security so we can make our nighttime flight. In laws are meeting us in Orlando, as they are flying in to MCO earlier in the day. We'll all rendezvous at the bar in the MCO Hyatt with a toasting drink around 11pm before we crash and wake up Christmas Eve, ready to board the Magic!

We are so excited to be spending Christmas aboard the Magic!

DW, DH and DS-D(16)... Does anyone else have teenagers?!? My stepdaughter has already assured us she won't leave our side the whole cruise (yikes!) I need to introduce her to friends!

Can we get the kids together?

Courtney:santa:

I was also wondering everyone's opinions on stockings on the doors....

We are traveling with other families, both with 2 little girls each, and I would like to put stuffed stockings on their front doors and stuff a little stocking for my stepdaughter. How likely is it they will be taken :guilty:

We had to take down a dry erase board because kids kept messing with it so I'm afraid of that being the case with our stockings. Advice?

Thanks fellow cruisers! :goodvibes

I have a daughter who will turn 16 on the 27th of December! She'll be cruising with us and at the club too.

Sounds like the kids' will be in a separate room? We're all in one cabin but I am bringing my kids' stockings and a couple mini-trees. I hope to get them all up while they sleep in the room. Can you do something like that? I'd be afraid to leave them on an outdoor my self.

Cindy,

Let's get the girls together!! It would be so nice for her to feel the "freedom" the ship has to offer for teens. I'm afraid she won't if she doesn't make a friend. (Plus, my sanity could use a break from time to time;))

In regards to the stockings, we will put ours inside by our little tree, but I wanted to put something in the kids' stockings of the other families too. It's a shame that even on a Disney cruise, we can't fully trust it. But I'm sure we will make do!

This is Kenzie's first DC...DH and I have done 3 others without her (due to school, cheerleading, etc) so I really want her to take full advantage of it and have a buddy to pal around with. Can we make this happen?

Courtney

I'm bringing two - Paige (16) and Corinne (14), plus the family coming with us has a son, Jeff (16). Maybe they should all meet up at The Stack Vibe (new name) - might be easier for them to get in to the swing of things there if they know that others are coming who might be looking for them.

Please join us for the Cruise Meet.
Great place for the kids and teens to meet each other before going to their clubs.
So looking forward to meeting the people behind the names here.

I'd love to get all the teens together! I'll try to make the Dis-meet; how does that sound? If not, how about a time to meet at the Stack or whatever the teen place is called. I told Madelyn I found some friends for her already and she said "Oh, okay." She's a great girl; plays varsity volleyball at school and club travel volleyball and is a good student. :flower3:

We did a VERY quick 3 day cruise in 2007 so this'll be the kids' 2nd cruise. I think they remember some of the first one but not a lot.

I was also wondering everyone's opinions on stockings on the doors....

I have stockings for the 8 of us in our party, along with the locking zip ties (the kind that can't be removed unless they are cut) so that I can attach them from our fish from Christmas Eve into Christmas morning. I don't anticipate on too much tampering, as I will probably fill/attach them after the midnight service and then as everyone wakes up early, they'll get emptied before there's too much activity on the ship. That is just us though, and all of our rooms are right next to each others in the front of the ship so there won't be too much foot traffic back there to begin with. After Christmas morning, we'll probably just leave them hanging empty, but each stocking is personalized with the person's name as well, so I'm thinking/hoping that they'll be left alone.

Keep in mind that nothing sticky can be used on the doors, only magnets.

We do use stockings for our FE, and are NOT aware of any issues with people taking anything from them. These stockings are fullsize, and some things were a little difficult to get out since items would fall to the bottom. We were on Deck 1, so it was NOT a high traffic area. I would feel comfortable hanging a stocking, but might consider putting it on the fish, rather than trying to be able to support it with magnets on the door. In addition, if items aren't visible sticking out of the top of the stocking, it is less likely to attract any undesirable attention.

Doing the single digit dance today! Nine days until we take off for Orlando! Big concert event tonight for my sixth grade string students and then I think it will finally all start setting in as reality.... Lots of packing/errands this weekend ahead to get us even more excited... Have a great day everyone! :)

I'm also being brave enough to hang our stockings right outside our door. Of course, our cabin is near the elevators, so I'm hoping the fear of being caught will scare off most tamperers. :santa: One week from today is our boys' last day of school and the last night before heading to Orlando! Please keep the snow away, thank you berry mush!

I'll go ahead and re-post what KaryCam wrote earlier. Please bring the family to our Cruise Meet scheduled for embarkation day! :cool1: It's a great, open, easy way to introduce ourselves to other DIS-ers without the pressure of one-on-one connections...just yet! :flower3:

Well, your's truly just got back from the Doctor's and I have an ear infection.

At least it's not a week from now and at least it's not DS that has it.

But I do have a house full of people coming on Sunday for our extended family Christmas.
DH is outside right now pressure washing the porch. (had off from work) We'll set up the tables out there since the highs are running about 80 right now. (which is higher than normal for this time of year)

The weather is looking to be nice and warm for the cruise. I'm watching the 10-day forecast for Key West and Cozumel.

Oh sorry to hear about your infection , hopefully it will clear up beofre the trip.

I have a hacking cough which i am hoping is not turning into a chest infetion. if I am still coughing on Monday then i shall take a trip to the Dr for some antibiotic just to be sure.

Today was my last day of work until after the B2B (so back on the 9th jan) And we had a snowfall over night -only a light covering and all gone again by this afternoon but enought to panic Holly into thinking that our flight may not be able to leave lOL We don't fly til next friday!

I have a whole list of jobs to do for christmas part 1 or in other words Sunday when we too have family here, then on monday we have christmas part 2 to prepare for.

We fly out just before lunch(GMT) on friday so will be in Orlando for late afternoon, we are staying in a local airport hotel and getting the shuttle to and from the hotel ready to get the DCL bus on christmas eve.

We have our Disney Christmas hats, and the kids have their Mickey hands ready to high four for our boarding photo.

So almost set to go....can't wait

Jojo,
I hope your cough doesn't go into a chest infection and that it clears up soon.

Your hats and Mickey hands sound wonderful and will make an adorable picture.

We did the 10 day Christmas cruise in 2006. Booked this one about a year ago. Thought I'd stop in and say hello. Cary me, Susan DW, Erin DD 16, and Kelly DD 14. :woohoo:
