Does anyone know why the park closes at 6pm on those days? Just curious if I should expect large crowds during the day or if the park is closing early because they're expecting no crowds.

It's the Cast Member parties going on those days. It's been said that low crowds should be expected because people don't like going to the parks when the hours have been shortened, but the CM Parties are also happening a week later this year, so not sure how busy it will be.

It's closing early those two days because of CM holiday parties. Fireworks will still be shown, at 6 pm. Some places I've looked says on CM party days crowds are a little less, but some say it's about the same...there may be some on the boards that have more experience with this and may be able to chime in.

We'll be there those days too, so we're hoping it may not be as crowded!

We are hoping that the big crowds are a little lighter those days as we only have so many days in DLR and well like anyone we hope we get light crowds so we can enjoy the DLR and not get the "squished" feeling like when the park is super busy!

Where did you hear about this cheerleading convention? I can't seem to find any information about that.

It was only for Saturday so I am hoping that a lot aren't staying afterward. My sister-in-law was @ DLR once when it was a whole WEEK of cheerleader conventions...they were run over a few times by all of the cheerleaders apparently

I remember going in March of last year (09) and there was a big cheerleading thing going on. Cheerleaders were everywhere our entire trip. But it was still pretty light on crowds that trip, thankfully.

Hmm, well wishful thinking tells me that they'll probably come earlier rather than stay later. So the week before will be busy but not the week after.

However, I'm sure it will be fine either way. Thanks for the info on the convention site thing, that's very useful!

I looked into this because it overlaps our dates and it appears to not be a major competition. They only have one arena hall rented and it is a holiday event. They have another regional competition on the same day in Tracy, CA. I am hoping that this is just going to be a blip on the screen for DLR attendance. It does explain some of the hotel booking issues people are having.
