Dec 2012 Points In Holding

We changed a reservation on a past trip and somehow I ended up with 32 points from our Dec 2012 use year in holding. Do I need to use these by Nov 30, 2013?
We also have 35 points active from Dec 2013 use year. When do I need to bank these by?

Yes, you would need to use the holding points by the end of November 2013. You have up to the end of July 2014 to bank your Dec 2013 points into your 2014 use year.

If you drop a night or change a reservation and the new reservation is for less points AND you are with in the 31 day window, those points will go into holding. Holding points can only be used for DVC reservation 60 days in advance.

OP, are you sure that you are supposed to have points in holding? I ask because I just had MS combine 2 reservations for me (same resort, same villa type), and when they did it, they somehow changed all of the points used, and left 30 points in holding in error. I noticed it quickly and called back to have a manager fix the points that were changed without permission, and the fix the erroneous points in holding.

If the points were put in holding in error, you might be able to have it fixed by a MS supervisor.

It sounds as though you made changes to a reservation within 30 days of arrival (like dropping a day or two) that returned excess points from that reservation to your account as "Holding" points. As noted, these can only be used to make a reservation within 60 days of arrival. They must be used for a stay before November 30, 2013 or they will expire as they cannot be banked.

If you did not make changes to an existing reservation 30 days or less before arrival, I would definitely call MS and ask for a review of the transaction.

Definitely give a call...a few years ago, my reservation was adjusted by MS a few days before arrival at BWV and I ended up, for some reason, with 5 holding points because when they canceled and rebooked me--never got a reason why they had to do it--they used current points vs. the holding points.

It was an easy fix but did require a call...so, if you aren't sure where they came from, give a call for sure.

Yes, call and be sure they are supposed to be in holding. I also had a few points go into holding when MS or the resort made some changes. If you made a reservation change withing 30 days of arrival, and that updated reservation took the same or more points, you should not have points in holding. If, however, the change took fewer points, then the points should be in holding and have to be used for nights by November 30.
