Cast included: me(Phyllis), dh(Jim), DD (Natalie), age 10 and Maggie The Magic Dog, age 2
This was our 5th Disney Cruise and 6th cruise overall.
We started out at 1830 on Friday night the 12th, by Jim backing MY car into the retaining wall in our driveway!! No damage was done(TG) and soon we were on our way to ORL and arrived about 2330. We actually got a good nights sleep, but were up
bright and early Saturday morning. We had made arrangements for Maggie to go to VIP Pet Hotel on Sand Lake Road...great facility and would not hesitate to take her there again. We dropped her off and were on our way by 0830. We started counting DCL buses at about 0845 and counted up to 14 before we stopped!! I was to call Shirley when we got close to the Port and what seemed like only minutes, we topped the bridge and there sat The Magic...after Natalie and I squealed and shouted, I called Shirley and told her we'd be there in a about 5 minutes. Visiting with Shirley(Norm was out doing deliveries) is always wonderful. Natalie helped her wait on some customers and after what seemed like 5 minutes I looked at the clock and it was 1045!!! I said OMG we need to go...I'll miss all my ressies. After many hugs and kisses...we were on our way. Even before the new alert, security was tight and we went through 3 check points before reaching the luggage drop off. Although Jim was allowed to park in the lot right across from the ship.
Our luggage was quickly unloaded, Jim parked and joined us in line. Since we were carrying a small fake Christmas Tree for our cabin, everyone was looking at it and saying, "Oh, I wish I'd thought of that". Soon we were in line at the CC desk, checked in and I looked and the line was soooo loooong...but as soon as the Mickey Ear doors opened...it only took a few minutes and we were once again, on The Magic.
We went up to Parrot Cay for lunch. We were greeted by John, one the head servers we had met on previous cruises. WELCOME HOME!!! I left Jim and Natalie and ran down the hall to RBD for Palo ressies. As I walked in..who did I run into but Barb and Tony's friend...PJ....off The Wonder, now the manager of Palo on The Magic. There was NO line at all, I got the dinner night I wanted and brunch and was wait listed for another night!!
I went back to PC and was in the line chatting with this really nice woman about the cruise, kids, etc...but did not find out her name.
We asked our server about cm's from previous cruises and learned a great many of them were on board. We were very excited about this and soon finished our SHRIMP(thinking of Tony all the time..lol) and left to go find our stateroom.
We had secret porthole cabin 5522. It was a great cabin, although an adjoiner..we never heard any noise from the next cabin. Our stateroom hostess, Kate, kept our cabin in impeccable shape, we always had ice, towels, shampoo, etc. I don't know how she did it, as Natalie seemed to think the floor was her own personal closet!! She made great towel animals, some we'd never seen before, a crab and two swans kissing...toooo cute!
Natalie didn't like the cabin at first because it didn't have a verandah, but when whe discovered the pull down bunk bed...she loved it and Kate made it up for her everynight. We plugged our little Christmas tree in and it was like a nightlight every night. Natalie put the towel animals around it and it was so cute!!
Mickey and Minnie had left an adorable bucket and shovel filled with all types of goodies in our cabin for Natalie...we enjoyed them all week. A big thanks to Mickey and Minnie(and of course to Shirley Minnie)!!!
Jim went to sign Natalie up for the club while I went to the bar
by the Goofy Pool to meet with AnnMorin and DeeAnn. We let her check herself in and out and it worked great. She knew if she messed up and didn't adhere to the rules we had set for her, she'd be back to being checked in and out by us...like she was a
"baby"!!
Met up with Ann and Dee Ann and Alex...and of all things...DeeAnn was the woman I'd been talking to in the line at PC. I never saw Ann again, but did meet up with DeeAnn(she and her daughter Jordan got picked for Mouseketeer and did great) and Alex at various times and places on the ship.
I then went on my quest to find our cast member friends. As I was walking on Deck 9 toward Pluto's, I saw this very handsome man, that I had to pull up from my memory bank who he was, and a woman was walking behind him with a cast member. It finally dawned on me who he was, as well as the woman with him. It was Paige Davis, the host of Trading Spaces and her husband Patrick Page!! Jim and I love her show and watch it all the time. I went on to find Ann Marie, former server, now a bar manager at The Outlook Bar. After talking with her for a while,
I went back to the cabin and told Jim I'd seen Pagie and Patrick..
he didn't believe me and after I convinced him...he went on a search for HER and had no luck!!
After the dreaded life boat drill....where we found another cm friend, Ellen, a former server now in Entertainment, we went to the sail away party. Natalie and I went up to the very front of the ship overlooking the crew pool and watched until she got too cold. We left Jim back at the Goofy Pool still on his quest to see Paige!!! It was good to see the patrol, Police and Coast Guard boats still escorting the ship(s) out to the channel.
We went back to our cabin and I told Jim I didn't want to go to the Welcome Aboard show. He insisted and so with me in not so good mood...off we went. The jugglers, The Hill Brothers were very good and we enjoyed them greatly. The next act, Freddy Fusion, welllll.....I'm still in reserve about that!!!! He said he needed a helper from the audience to help him and his DUCK Bill.
Wellllllllllllllllllllll guess who he picked out of the 900 people in the audience to help him on stage?????? MMMMMEEEEEEEEEE!!!!
I do not like birds, sorry bird lovers, but since seeing the movie
The Birds....I don't want them anywhere around me. So here we go up on the stage, Freddy, me and this DUCK, who is biting my fingers and I'm about to die!!!!!!!!!! So, he has me make "friends" with this duck and I'm thinking OMG, I'm going to kill Jim. They told me he actually sat this duck on my head!!! When you are up on that stage you cannot see past like the 2nd row...thank God!!!!!!!!! So, I pull a card out of the deck and he tells me to rub it on myself (how embarrassing) so that Bill can get my "scent". So, I pull out a card and then puts Bill and cards in a big crate and cards start flying out and the last card is the one I picked!!! I don't have a clue how it worked, but it did. He then escorted me back to my seat, with Jim and Natalie laughing and howling at me. Furious at Jim, I told him I'd never forgive him...lol Imagine starting your cruise out preforming with a DUCK!!!! lol We saw this guy all over the ship and he'd always ask me to come and preform with him again......YEAH RIGHT....
Later on our way to dinner in Animator's we ran into Paige and Patrick and the friends they were traveling with and she stopped me and told me what a great job I'd done and how funny I was.
Well, I was mortified again.....I couldn't believe she actually saw me do that!!!!!!!!!! And Jim finally got to see her live!!! But it was an ice breaker and we saw them all over the ship and everytime I saw any of them, they always stopped and talked or waved. She and Patrick could not have been nicer, and we tried just to treat them as we would any other passengers we had met on the cruise and I think they appreciated it. More on P & P later....
Our servers were spectacular, Sylvester from India and Ivan from Bulgaria. Ivan was a little shy, but opened up after he got to know us, and Natalie could not believe how he could remember what we wanted to drink each night!! If we couldn't make up our minds about what we wanted for dinner, Sylvester would bring both or all!! They were great, and we NEVER got the excellent speech once. MacLean, was our head server as he had been on previous cruises and we saw Pema, an assistant server from another cruise. We had now seen all of our old friends, except one and we'd meet up with him later.
After dinner, we walked through the shops and then called it a night. It had been a very event packed day for us. The ship was sailing on calm water and we had a very peaceful sleep. Although I did miss a certain dog who usually makes her bed with us!!!
The next ones won't be so long, I'll try to combine days together.
But I love reading the long reports...hope y'all do to.
