Debra Lafave - Double Standard in Teen Sex Case?

That very attitude is the very reason male victims do not come forward very often. The fear of ridicule from the good ole boys who think this should be viewed as nothing but a notch on his belt. It's pathetic.

She would practically have to have removed his testicles with a butter knife for men to have any sympathy for his situation with this teacher. No win situation and I am sure that is why the parents did not want him to revea his identity on the stand. He would never have lived it down.

They think he is looking a gift horse in the mouth. Very sad.

I agree, its a pervasive attitude. Now if she looked like Helen Thomas instead of Debra, she would have gotton 20 years. In fact, I think that there was a "rather plain" ( I am being nice here) woman who was arrested around this time also, and there wasn't a whole lot of sympathy for her, (not that there should have been).
Another point that men are making is that no one can force a boy to have sex with a woman, while a man can certainly force a woman. Power isn't necessarily physical power but an imbalance of power. If it were my kid, I would be livid.

This gets back to the reason it is illegal to have sex with a minor. Force is irrelevant. Mental coercion is just as powerful as your hands or rope, when it comes to the mind of a child.

People seem to want it to be easy to spot...easy to recognize like forceable and/or violent rape. The very reason it is damaging is because it is emotionally abusive. Not just physically.

in the beginning, she claimed she knew it was wrong, but loved the thrill of it. she was also shown with full make up and her hair done, always smiling. after her attorneys took over, it was a pout on her face and her hair pulled back, ver conservative. then it turned into not being a thrill, but her mental illness and the media. she was crying today about the press coverage she received. they didn't pull the age of 18 out of a hat. she should be doing jail time, I'm shocked.

What kind of mental illness makes you think it's okay to take a 14 year old kid out for the wild thing?

I hear she is writing a book about it, so I guess we're going to find out.

And I know we'll never know this, but if the kid had a good time with her, what does he need extensive therapy for?
