Debate: Should Bill Clinton speak at President Reagan's Funeral.

Did I say he WAS stoned? No. I said he looked goofy/odd or "like" someone who is partaking of marijuana. Excuse me for implying the former Commander in Chief "looked" stoned. I even said, "I am sure he was not- meaning I was being tongue in cheek. I too was incredibly touched and moved by the service and watched with reverence. As they panned across the many, many dignitaries there (many whom I disagree with politically), they all just looked normal, sitting there....but I'm sorry, Clinton looked funny to me. And I KNOW I am not the only one watching TV today who did a second take at Clinton and think, "Huh....that's an interesting expression."

Geez...some of you are VERY quick to take things VERY seriously!

;)

There's a big difference between saying "that's an interesting expression" and saying the former President looked "stoned." You did say you were sure he wasn't "stoned", then proceeded to say he looked "goofy/asleep/ just plain odd." I'm sure he couldn't have been thinking, or praying, or reminiscing... And Mrs. Clinton was characterized as "I just got into a big fight with someone and I'm stewing about it unhappy."

But I guess since it was all tongue in cheek, that it's ok.

Maybe we all could take a cue from Mr. Reagan and try to treat each other with a semblance of civility. We don't have to become bosom buddies, but we could try to stop some of the rhetoric like this and references to President Bush as "Shrub." Even just for today out of respect for Mr. Reagan.

That you could watch such a moving, historical event and all you can think of to post is that President Clinton looked "half stoned during the service", " goofy/asleep/ just plain odd" along with your comments about Senator Clinton is simply amazing and says volumes about just how much you really care about the death of President Reagan.

It's interesting to take a look at the posts just since the service ended and see which side started in with the insults first.

It's not surprising though since the reason for this entire thread was yet another cheap shot at President Clinton.

Btw, if constantly bashing a former President was an effective way to defeat the opponent, Dem's would still be talking about Nixon.

The problem with the "stem cell" angle is that it isn't much more than the press needing a controversy and an angle. Nancy Reagan's testimony and letter in favor or federal funding for research was coincidentally close to her husbands death...not as a result of it. Further, she hasn't been on a crusade and has said nothing more about it. It seems pretty cheap to use President Reagan's death to score political points. It is certainly low class when Republicans do it. It is decidedly low class when to press and the opposition do it in this way.

I believe in either the speech she gave or by the accounts of those close to her, she has made it clear that she intends to be very outspoken and a force worth reckoning with in regards to stem cell research.

I doubt that the last few weeks have afforded her much time to begin working towards that cause, but I certainly hope she does become a spokesperson for the issue.

I don't think there's been a shortage of cheap shots or a lack of class on either side regarding many issues.

I have to agree with peachgirl. Nancy Reagan's speech back in May was a clear indication that she intends to be an outspoken advocate of stem cell research. The fact that she hasn't said anything more on the matter is probably a reflection of Reagan's worsening condition leading to his eventual death and the short passage of time since her speech. I wouldn't be surprised that once she gets through her mourning period, we'll hear more on the matter from her.

Granted. This issue is one of the very cheapest.

Same old feeble response can't disagree otherwise it is Un- American. The President should have respect for the office he once held. However Clinton and Gore think they are still in office. I never once have complained about anyone else being critical of the President. The issue was why pick on Clinton he has not been in office for three and half years. Clinton deserves it since he does not have any respect for the office.

I have no facts to back this up, I only heard it on Fox News. So, take it with a grain of salt if you need to. Someone on there said that stem cell research probably would not do much to help alzheimer's patients anyway. If that's true, I'd be curious to see if Nancy is going to allow herself to be a spokesperson for it. They did go on to say that it would help with other things (I can't remember what though), so she could stick with it. I dunno

I sure hope that every politician and their brother doesn't suddenly start hounding Nancy Reagan for support of this or that! She is younger that him, but not by more than 10 years. They were so "joined" I wouldn't be surprised if she isn't with us that much longer herself.

I thought that she was in good health? Does she have any illnesses? I hope not!:D

I don't think it's a matter of her being "hounded". She's made it very clear that she wants to do this. I don't think anyone has ever accused Nancy Reagan of being a pushover or easily prodded to do anything she doesn't want to do.

I sure hope that the minute she decides that she's in favor of something that a lot of conservatives aren't she doesn't suddenly go from being a brave, strong individual to a fragile old woman that doesn't deserve to be listened to.

She is in excellent health mentally and physically. Of course she is elderly and no one lives forever, but I don't see a woman who appears to have be totally broken by her husbands death nor do I see one who has lost her will to live. I see a woman who believes she still has a purpose for living and a force that the Republicans will have to reckon with if they want her support.

The question was whether or not Ex-President Clinton should speak at the funeral or not.............SPEAK? He and his wife couldn't even stay AWAKE. They both should have made up some lame excuse and stayed home.
They are both disgusting. I sure hope that image gets plastered by the media as it should!

More crap from Sludge, huh?

Look at Mrs. Ford sitting behind them. Her eyes are closed as well. It's called praying.

As I said before, the sludgereport is nothing but a bunch of garbage.

Nice try though.

Oy vey ... a photographer catches them at this exact moment and people jump to all kinds of conclusions. Wow, I hope those who criticizing the Clintons over this photo never have to suffer the "shame" of having a bad photo taken of them.
