DEBATE:Don't DVC Members Deserve the New Elite Fastpasses?

Kevin Yee on MiceAge has been writing about a new form of FastPass that will be available ONLY to those who book their trips through the Walt Disney Travel Company: an UNLIMITED FastPass. You would be able to walk from FastPass machine to maching and get as many as you want. No more waiting until your new window opens.
This is supposed to be an incentive for people to book through Disney, of course, but what about us? We are the ultimate people who "book through Disney" ... we've booked through them for 40 years!
Should we ALSO be given the same access to this type of FastPass? I've never started a petition before, but this is something we all might think about!

Mooobooks...I agree that it would be nice for DVCers to have such a privilege.

But realize that Disney is offering this Elite FP to lure new bookings....it doesn't seem that they need this to lure new DVC sales, so the age old axiom seems to apply. Why would Disney do anything that wouldn't make them more money?

Don't get me wrong...this is a nice perk that costs Disney nothing and would be a nice benefit. I just don't think they'll do it is all.

And I'm not a moderator, but I know that these boards aren't supposed to be used to generate petitions and such.

Please don't take this as me having anything against your concept. We'd love it and it would incent us to go to the parks more (maybe even buy AP's again). If there are enough DVC folks like us who have quit buying AP's, maybe they'd consider it to lure us back.

We are the ultimate people who "book through Disney" ... we've booked through them for 40 years!

And that's why we probably will not see it. They've already got us! If it's true, the idea is to get new bookings, not people they already have locked up. They are selling out DVC resorts faster than they can build them. Since they will not give us annual or hopper pass discounts, I wouldn't look for this either. It would be nice though!:D

Actually I think that what they should do is raise the cost of the UPH and build the fast pass into that. That way DVCers would have access to it and the people who do not currently purchase UPH's would be more inclined to do so.

While I would love to have them, I don't feel we deserve anything more than the average guest.

at the dvc meeting they mentioned "value added" passes as the direction they were moving vs giving DVC member rates like florida residents, who knows maybe this is the direction they are going

What RMD said.

Okay, correct me where I am wrong here....
I believe that Disney owes us nothing more than first class accommodations for our purchase of DVC, BUT..........If the only way to get this benefit is to book through Walt Disney Travel Company, then we UNABLE to get this as a DVC member. That doesn't seem right to me.

Okay, where am I making my mistake????

I don't know about you, but I gave Disney $23,000 of my money. Does the average guest do that? Certainly not.
We, as DVC members, give Disney more of our money than almost anyone else, and yet it looks like we will be excluded from this perk.
'Taint fair.

Having said that, this may be a good opportunity for USF/IOA to offer DVC members a special AP rate and FOTL access. That will show us they REALLY want our business.

I'm not as concerned about the FP aspect, but I would like to see a real discount to encourage me to keep an annual pass active. Our current pass expires in June, and we will not be purchasing another for well over a year.

But Mooobooks,

That 23K is a one time thing. Divide that by the 40 yrs left in the program and that is $575 per year for accomodations (+ dues, of course), far less than the average on-site guest.

It would be a nice perk, but I don't expect it through DVC...I think it should apply to all AP and LOS-type passes.

Please help me out here.....Are DVC members prohibited from this benefit because we are unable to book our DVC ressies through Walt Disney Travel Company? Am I correct in assuming that we are unable to get this benefit even for a price, because we are DVC members?

I don't know the rules on this, so will someone here explain?
Thanx!

If you can only get these unlimited Fastpasses by booking through WDW Travel and we as DVC members normally book with memberservices , then it would seem that DVC members would be excluded from this privilege unless you choose to spend the money(instead of using points) to book with WDW travel. While I am all for Disney offering perks to those who wish to pay for them, in this case it would seem to discriminate against DVC because they are offering a perk that DVC members are not ever eligible for

I wouldn't hold your breath waiting for a perk for DVC members

,
I am pretty satisfied with what we get(1st class accomodations),but can't understand why pts for the Disney Cruise line keep going up every year.

But they are eligible,if they wish to pay.I know I wouldn't pay for accommodations for fastpasses, but I can if I wanted to.No discrimination there.
The system hasn't even come out yet.when it does, this is how it is going to be offered first. It may expand to other ways as time goes on.

That's a big BINGO for Debby7!
And, Chuck S., please don't divide my money by 40 years and tell me how much I'm paying them per year--it doesn't work that way.

Exactly my point, Debby. That's what I was trying to say....Thanx for wording it more clearly!

Mr J Cricket said what I was trying to say much much better, here is a quote from his post on the News and Rumors board...
Point of view again. It IS being priced and offered to everyone, including AP and DVC members. You just have to book a package deal and ignore your past purchases. Sure it's expensive and foolish sounding to ignore your current AP and DVC membership in leiu of booking a package, but that is the cost of having it all.

Anyone can have a box of all purple popsicles. Just buy extra boxes and dump out all of the red and orange ones. Silly yes, but that is the cost of having what you want.

It would be great for a cable company to offer just the channels you wanted, but that's not going to happen. A la carte =$$$$
