Death at DW today

How do we know for certain that this family did NOT know their son had a heart condition

Because the father of the boy said he was healthy with no medical issues.

I also think about the after-ride photo (I think it's taken right when you are taking off into the tunnel?) - if you could tell anything from his expression? Weird to think about but it's still on my mind.

I thought of this too since we just got back, rode the ride and bought the photo. It might have captured something tragic or a final moment of joy...

Fortunately, if there were four in the family riding, you would presume that the CMs would have seated them all in the one car, so the photo would only be of the family itself; i.e. no other public would have a reason to buy that photo. I could be wrong about the number of people in the family tho'. Anyone know?

They probably pulled the photo from the viewing screen and the public didn't see it. They have CM's watching the monitors and if they see something that isn't appropriate they pull the photo.

My mother and I spoke about this the other night after it came on the news. We both came to a conclussion about some of these instances: We don't think people expect DISNEY thrill rides to be as "thrilling" as other parks. You go to Universal and you expect it at their parks, so I think some people take more precautions and read the warnings a bit more seriously. "RnR can't be as bad as the rides at Universal because this is Disney!" I have actually heard people say this when I talk to them about rides like RnR and M:S.

Disney does all it can to keep it's guests safe. They post warnings and impliment height limits for many of their rides. However, they can not force people to read those warnings and take them to heart. If someone refuses to heed the warnings posted, for whatever reason, then what can disney do? You can not look at someone and say "oh, they have high blood pressure so they can't ride." when they get to the loading area. You have to trust they have made a correct decision when they decided to ride.

An undiagnosed health issue can hit anyone, anywhere. Tomorrow I could have a blood clot hit my brain... but I am not going to let that stop me from living my life. I refuse to allow the "what if"'s control me and my decisions. It is up to the parents best judgement on if their child should ride something. My mother told me she would not have let one death in millions and millions and millions keep me from riding if I had wanted to if I was still that young. If she did that, then she would have had to never let me ride in a car or on a plane.

From : www.signonsandiego.com

"Disney and other large amusement parks are exempt from state and federal oversight, but the parks in Florida agreed in 2001 to provide quarterly accident reports and notify the state of serious incidents. Disney has reported nine deaths since then; Universal Orlando has reported two and Sea World and Bush Gardens none.

The Rock 'n' Roller Coaster debuted in 1999 and has had 36.6 million riders, according to Disney. No previous fatalities have been reported on the ride."

Between 2002 and June 2006, WDW had approximately 183 million visitors. With 9 deaths, your chances of dying at WDW are about 1 in 20 million.

Over the same period, about 56 million people visited the Universal parks. With 2 deaths, your chances of dying at Universal are about 1 in 28 million.

Neither park is at all risky in terms of dying.

Your odds of dying by a lightning strike in any one year is about 1 in 2.3 million, making it something in the magnitude of 10 times more likely.

Now, if there is lightning during your visit to WDW, well, good luck! :)
