Hey everyone. I was hoping someone could give me some great tips about how to deal with the saddness (and parent's empty nest syndrome) when leaving the house? I am an only child with a single mom, so it's really hard for me to leave. But I do want to...

With all that said, any tips? Thanks!

I understand how you feel, I had the same problem when I went away. I did have my best friend with me, but I was still very sad. I cried the whole first day :sad1: . The first thing you need to do is make friends with you room mates (BFF and I made the choice NOT to live together) and your neighbors. There is so much to do and having friends around you makes it all the better. I spent my first and only Christmas away fom home at Disney and I would have never made it if I had not had the my new friends. Call home everyday if you want, but limit the phone call to 15 min or less. Try to get in good with your managers, I did and they got me a week off so I could go home the week after Thanksgiving. The most important thing is not let your home sickness take over your day, if you do you will miss out on to much. Try new things (it's ok to get a little crazy). Don't spend your days off in your apartment, go to the parks, go to the mall, if you have a car explore Orlando. Doing the college program is one of the best thing I have ever done, in the end it made me a much stronger person. I wish you all the best of luck

Stay busy is the best advice I can offer. Too much alone time and time spent not working or doing acitivities is the time you start thinking about and missing home.

Thanks for the advice! I am excited about growing up, but it sure can be hard at times!

Leaving home was quite hard thing to do. I left alone and I didn't know anyone in my new city. I am happy that I didn't have to thing others when I left. My little brother did stay at home and my parents live together, so I didn't have to think is my mother okay. That summer was quite much awful, I just worked and tried to learn new city. I was quite much all alone that summer. Emailed a lot to my old friends and visited them couple of times. When my school finally began I get some new friends and I felt better.

Basicly it just takes some time, just like any bigger thing whats happens in life.
