DD got an Ipod touch for her birthday back in early Nov. and spent a small fortune on songs. Everyone gave her money or itunes cards for bday and Christmas. I think she spent $60 in itunes cards.

Anyway her Ipod is gone, I believe it was stolen, because she brought it to school where it shouldn't have been. Has her name on back also. She has a hard time believing someone would take it out of her tote.

With holidays and other problems going on I neglected to backup transfer or whatever because I wasn't even sure how to do it. Is there anyway to get those songs. They must have records they were bought on the account, right?
Thanks!

Yeah, that's why they made itunes. Every song you have in itunes will sync to the ipod and transfer those songs. itunes is like the master copy list of what is on your ipod. Now the good thing is that whoever stole the ipod will have a slightly more difficult time getting the music off of there and into their own itunes. However if they don't care about the music and just wanted the ipod, they can hook it up to their computer and sync their current itunes list to the ipod.

Therefore, all you need is the computer that has your daughter's itunes on it.

That's the problem, there is no computer. It was an itouch and she got the music directly onto her itouch.

Ah, so she was able to directly download music to her itouch. I just have the ipod classic so I use my itunes to manage the music. Maybe you could contact Apple or go into an Apple store to ask them?

I'm not sure about the answer to your question, but wanted to let you know it's really easy to backup the iTouch. You just plug it into a computer that has iTunes installed, and it synchronizes everything automatically.

I hope she gets it back.

Even though she downloaded the music directly onto her iPod Touch, your daughter still would have created an iTunes account. Her iTunes account will have a record of all of the songs, movies, etc. that she had purchased and downloaded (as well as any credit she may have had left from her gift cards). However, you would need a computer to get at the music. You may be able to access her iTunes account on someone else's iPod Touch (logged in with her iTunes account) but I am not sure about this method.

Sorry to hear that someone stole her player :sad2:

Edited to add: I have had excellent customer service from Apple Stores - if you have any questions about how to get to her music, I am sure they would be able to lead you step-by-step through the process. Good luck!

My DH has an iPod Touch. As a previous poster said, when he buys things directly on his iPod Touch, the next time he plugs it into the computer, it transfers it to iTunes on our computer. You're also allowed to copy your purchased music from your computer onto a CD for back-up purposes.

When my sister's hard drive failed (not an iPod touch, but...), she called Apple and they let her re-download the songs she'd purchased onto her new computer. Usually it's limited to one download to prevent someone from buying a song and then allowing others to download it, too. Apple said that they will let you re-download your music ONCE if you call them...but they're the ones who told us about the CD for back-up. Call or e-mail them. Maybe they will help.

Also, in case you weren't aware, your daughter can use iTunes to copy music from CDs onto her iPod. She doesn't need to rebuy songs she owns on CD to listen to them on her iPod.

I'd talk to someone at the Apple store. There must be some record of her purchases. When you download directly to the iTouch you go through your own iTunes account & need to enter you username & password. I don't know how to do it, but I imagine there must be a way. The apple store employees have allways been very helpful when I ask them questions.

Yup, as others have said, when DBF connects his ITouch to our computer it transfers everything he's purchased. Your DD has an acct, they will have a record of everything she has purchased. Contact Apple, they will be able to help. I hope your DD gets her Ipod back. :(

how did she charge it?

as others have said once she plugged it in to charge it the ipod touch will automatically sync with her/your itune account.

There are car and wall chargers that you can purchase, so you don't necessarily have to plug it into a computer to charge. DW and I both have one of each.

When your daughter logs into her iTunes account, there are receipts of all the transactions she made. Plus she should have received e-mail verifications as well. You will need to contact Apple in order to retrieve the music. Give them the receipt number and they will be able to locate the transaction.

If you have a computer at home, I would recommend using iTunes on a computer to purchase and manage all music. This way, there is at least a backup file on your computer, and retrieving music will be much easier.

Thumper is correct...Just to add... You will have to talk to apple support to get them to let you redownload the music. They will allow this only once so download it to a computer then back-up all the songs to an external drive, CD or USB stick, then sync it with your new ipod (if you are going to get her a new one).

Thank you everyone. I'll call apple. I do have records of the purchases they go to my email so I can't see whats going on.

We were computerless for a little while except for Dh's work computer (off limits for the most part). So she got used to not using computer. Thanks to the DIS I saw a deal for an HP laptop for $300 at Best Buy and I love it.

She charged at night on her ihome alarm/clock charger.

I feel a bit relieved, too much money to waste. She realizes there aren't anymore more birthdays or Christmas or any other holiday to get more itunes cards.

Really? I know that :rotfl: I was only asking because if they had charged it on their computer it probably synced and they did not even realize that it had.

No need to only use a computer to purchase just make sure you back it up once a week.

I also keep all my apple purchase emails in a folder so I have easy access to them if I ever need them.

What a bummer! :headache:

My iPod Touch was stolen a couple of days ago, so I totally sympathize. It seems like the above posters have given you great info on how to get your daughter's songs back, but I just want to remind you that if she ever used the iTouch to access her email, Facebook, etc... she should change her passwords for all of those things right away, so that the next person who finds (or stole) the iPod won't have access to her email, etc. I just had to change a ton of passwords... it sucks, but at least I know that all of my information is secure.

Also, you might want to give her a gentle reminder to password protect her new iTouch, if she gets one. You can password protect your iTouch under the settings tab, and it will prompt you to make up a four number password... you can also set it so that it erases the memory after ten failed attempts... which will protect any of your personal info like passwords that's automatically saved on the iTouch.

She can also buy an app called iHound. If you find your iPod missing and you have iHound installed, you can go to their website and send a notification to your iPod that, if it's connected to WiFi, will set off an alarm that says "This iPod is lost or stolen!" Not exactly Brinks home security, but if it works, it's well worth the $2.99 to embarrass a thief and possibly recover your iPod.

Good luck!

She didn't use email or facebook or anything like that.

I Love that Ihound thing. I just got an itouch for Christmas from dh and I'll get it. My dd has some money and will probably buy herself another one and I'll tell her to load the ihound also.

Finally off on a weekend and I'm going to backup all itunes stuff.

DH just had his iTouch stolen out of his car about 2 hours ago. :sad2: I've been trying to find information on what we should do. He didn't want to do a police report because he figures it's useless. I'm not sure.
Can Apple do something so that if someone tries to sync it with a new computer/iTunes account, it won't let it?
Other than the Facebook and email passwords someone mentioned, is there anything else like that? Can they access our iTunes account and make purchases? I guess we should change that password too, but wasn't sure if you have to know the password to make purchases directly from the iTouch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated. It stinks bad enough that it was stolen, but I want to make sure we protect everything else that we can.
THANKS!!!

Whenever I buy anything from my Itouch directly, it makes me enter my Itunes password. I'd definitely change the other passwords though, just in case. Did your DH use the feature where you need a 4 digit code to 'turn it on'? I have mine set and if someone types in the wrong code 10 times, it erases the Itouch.

Good luck, I found mine next to my car today at the utility company. I guess it fell out of my purse as I was getting out of the car and I'm really lucky that someone didn't walk by and snatch it up. :headache:

Just wanted to say how sorry i am that your DDs itouch got stolen. My DD15 and DD12 each have one and they would be so sad to lose them. I hope maybe somehow it'll get returned to your DD.
