I will admit to a very unsettled feeling last night as I looked ahead to today, DD's first Mother's Day. Even though she is a very good Mother to her precious baby, she does not do it all on her own. She has exceeded our expectations and has one of the strongest maternal bonds that I have ever seen. Without a partner, planning her Mother's Day was entirely up to my DH and I. I was worried that she would see this day as an excuse to get presents, not as a remembrance of her motherhood. She is also keenly aware that she does not have an parenting partner to make the day special for her.

The day went well. She was very uncomfortable in church during the words spoken about the day. She felt inadequate in some of the descriptions (who doesn't?!?!?!) but she beamed with pride when the nursery workers presented her with a special handprint Mother's Day gift from her DD.

As the day progressed, she became more calm and we enjoyed lunch and a movie (Daddy Daycare). She laughed out loud several times. We had a couple of keepsake gifts for her and I also had a gift of a matching Ty beanie and the larger, stuffed bear ("mommy and me" type gift). It really struck me that she is still young enough to enjoy a huggable teddy bear. As I type this, she is hugging it as she sleeps. I also thought about starting a tradition of getting her a "mommy and me" gift each year in the future.

Sharing a Mother's Day with your 16 yr old daughter is quite an experience. God's blessings were in abundance and all is well tonight.

Claudia,

You sound like a very special Mom indeed! Not many moms would be so supportive of their 16 year old child having a child of their own. Your gift sounded like a great tradition in the making.

Although I am older, my parents have always taken my son to get me something for Mother's Day....or gotten swomething themselves for me. DS lives with them by my choice. So, in many ways my Mom is more Motherly (5 days a week) than I am. But, they always make me feel special.

I am SOOO glad that you made your daughter's day special. As she grows and matures, she will remember it and will only draw her closer to you.

Claudia, I'm so glad you all had a good day. Your family has been through so much this past year, and yet you always seem to get over the hurdles with style and grace! I hope you had a wonderful Mother's Day as well--you certainly deserve it!

Awwwww Claudia! That's a beautiful, touching post. :) :) It's sounds as if your Mother's Day was full of blessings. :) :)

She is blessed to have such a caring mom to help make her day special.

Claudia, I am so glad you two had a wonderful day. You deserve it. :)
