They called a bit ago...wanted to schedule DD for a behind the wheel session from 4-6 pm on Friday... :earseek: BLACK FRIDAY!!!!!!!!!!! During rush hour no less.....I'm fairly certain not many parents will allow their kids to schedule during this time frame, ay least I HOPE not!

I hope that they have a lot of insurance!

I think it's a great idea. They cannot avoid traffic forever. The real world have traffic, so this is the prefect learning opportunity for her.

Goodluck!

Oh my god that reminds me of my first driving lesson at driving school. We left the parking lot and started to go around some residential areas, everything was cool, then she said to make a left back on to the main road (which i thought meant we were going back to the driving school :rotfl:)

Well, we passed the driving school and veered right on to the 408 expressway, which was chock full of lunch time traffic. I was scared out of my wits, but did absolutely fine. It was for the best anyway, because it gave me alot of confidence driving on a busy road.

I think she'll be fine :flower: Is the driving school around any large shopping centers?

I agreew why try and shield them from certain driving situations it will give them a feel for what it will be like out on teh road during rush hours and weekends and such I think it is a great experiance.

My son got his license on Black Friday 2 years ago. Everyone was in the next town shopping, so he said the roads were desolate!

I would also think that 4-6 pm on Black Friday won't be too terribly awful for traffic. A lot of people have that day off (or take it off) from work and most of the active sale stuff happens early in the morning. By that time of night, the heavy duty shoppers are back home napping!

I don't see a problem. People are out shopping EARLY IN THE MORNING on the day after Thanksgiving, not after 4:00. Also, the traffic should be limited to the mall areas. When I was taking driver's ed, I remember they took us out to a very deserted church with a "circular" parking lot and had us drive around and around the church, then we drove through neighborhoods and backroads.

I don't think she'll have any problems.

I did most of my driving hours at rush hour. Then there was 7 am on Christmas Eve (yes you read that right), my first highway hours (with the instructor) the Sunday after Thanksgving when everyone was headed home. You get the idea. Really crazy times. The instructors tend to know what they're getting into though, and will definitely advise on what to do. And just my experience, but late in the day on Black Friday is the BEST time to be on the road (other than early early Christmas morning, when no one is on the road...)

I agree. It should be good for her.

This reminded me of the sharpie mini commercial. Anyone seen it. The student driver scratches like 5 cars and has to color in the paint in the same color. :rotfl:

I think it is great practice for her with another driver that can semi-control the car. They need to learn how to drive in all situations so why not during drivers ed. I had drivers ed in the winter and they always tried to take students out on bad roads or to a parking lot that was empty to get some experience driving on snow/ice.

I took my driving classes when I was working the night shift (I was 23) so had them at rush hour every day. The end of class involved going to pick up the next student, so I often had to cross downtown traffic, as did the next student. I went out in blinding rain, sleet, snow, you name it.

It served me well because I wasn't afraid to drive in those conditions. I've been in Florida for almost 25 years, so would hesitate to drive in snow.

I am not against learning in all situations, but for her first time out..no thanks! And by the way, traffic was nuts around here for the whole day, the weather was the pits...sleety flurries....just not the right way to start out for her. DD was so thankful that I signed her up for Tuesday instead. I am sure she will have plenty of opportunities to drive in cruddy weather with jerks on the road....but if she freaks out her first time then she will not want ot continue. Glad to see that those who did have stressful sessions are alive to tell about them! LOL!

Actually, I think it´s a smart move. My driving instructor used to make me take lessons in all kinds of traffic and weathers. It provided me with great training. You can´t avoid traffic and I´d rather have my kid practice with an instructor than going out there for the first time on their own.
