DDs birthday is 8/22 which is the day we leave WDW. We are staying at the Poly (8 day trip) and we have an early breakfast reservation at Ohana. We are doing MK until about noon, and then we have to leave to get back because school starts Monday 8/24.

Any ideas on what to do for her actual bday? She is 8 so she now knows what is her "real" birthday. I'm sure we'll let them know at Ohana. but any ideas for anything else special? We'll probably eat QS before we leave the park.

Get a birthday button! You'll have cast members telling her happy birthday when they notice it. Sometimes you "MIGHT" get some bit of pixie dust, but don't count on it, it's no guarantee. You can get the buttons for sure at Town Hall in MK and I'm sure that there are other places to get them (I suggest getting it ahead of time so she can wear it all day on her birthday)

Make her a special tshirt that says something like Today is my birthday with a Disney design. A little more special than the pins which you will see a lot of people wearing. We have never received anything but birthday wishes. I know some people report getting extra pixie dust like a free ice cream or something like that, but never happened to us and we were there for my daughter's birthday on 3 trips. I think being at Disney World on your birthday and having a whole lot of people and characters say Happy Birthday to you is pretty darn special though. :)

Thanks guys. I like the t shirt idea. Last year, we checked in the day after my birthday, but the CM at WL gave me a pin to wear that day anyway. It was nice to get all the birthday wishes.

I thought about a cake but I think it will just go to waste with us leaving right away and we'll be checking out and then going to the park. Maybe we'll go the Plaza and get some ridiculously good ice cream something or other for her.

Celebrate her birthday all week - note the celebration on any ts dining locations. Maybe pick a favorite TS meal the night before you leave and do the cake or have a delivery made to your room the day before. At 8 she can understand some of the logistics of traveling and what not and will appreciate all efforts you make. Maybe surprise her the last day with a little extra spending money or the "one must have" that she didn't have enough to buy for herself early in the week (if she is responsible for her own spending $)

great idea. Both kids are getting spending money but I'm sure there will be that "must have" that she didn't get.
Our TS the night before is at Be Our Guest.
We are travelling with another family, and their daughter (same age as mine) will be turning 8 on Aug. 30th. Maybe we can plan something together.

Yes there is always that one thing that they find. Remember if there is something that she is really looking at but not willing to spend her money on, you could circle back around and have it delivered to your resort and then surprise her the morning of her birthday. I have done this with my DD because I find that she is much more selective with her money than mine :rolleyes1

Also just a thought, a lot of the stores are selling the reusable bags now, so you could use that for "wrapping" the gift.

Disney has some amazing cupcakes, could always do that and sing to her so you don't waste a whole cake

Make breakfast her big celebration. As someone mentioned a special cupcake would be great. Maybe for the ride home, purchase a few disney treats like mickey rice crispy treats or some special candy to add to you evening meal.

Definitely agree with a birthday button, sash, or hat. She'll be wished a happy birthday all day long! At the Poly you can get a birthday "basket" or personalized sack with goodies in it delivered to your room and ready when you arrive (wdw flower and gifts). Or you could pack several things already wrapped to hand to her throughout the day. For example, start with an outfit for the day, a hat, an autograph book, sunglasses, hair clip, etc; all in disney theme.
