Already have the DDP for my trip next month thinking about upgrading to DxDP. I've never done DxDP. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

I've done the DDP - and we've upgraded our free dining to the deluxe for this trip in December.

I like having everything paid for. And if you do many signatures, it's the way to go - because that will eat up the dining plan way too quick. We always end up buying a bunch of stuff at the end with the snack credits - but they're nice to take back to the kids friends.

If you like having TS meals, it's the way to go. If you consider it a drag on your time, then it's probably not the way to go.

Just for future reference, here on the DIS most people refer to DDP = Disney Dining Plan, DxDP = Deluxe Dining Plan. Just in case you post later that you have the DDP, people may be confused.

I'm thinking about this one, too :goodvibes We've done the dining plan and may do the deluxe dining, in December, depending on the price, of upgrading from free dining.

I completely agree. Before I chose the DxDP for our December trip I priced out what all the meals DH & I expected to order would amount to. We're doing 3 signature's plus a CPP. The DxDP will save us a little money and provides us with some extra snack credits that we'll use for treats to bring home to our grandchildren.

We'll be at AKL on a 40% off pin so we're paying for the dining plan.

We found Deluxe dining to be a waste of time and money unless you are doing a lot of 2 credit signature dining meals and the dinner shows.

We (2 adults) just got back from 10 days of DxDP. It was awesome, but a ton of food!
If we were to do it again, we would plan a big breakfast buffet for around 10am and then a 2-credit dinner later at night. Then, we could use more of our snack credits.
It was a lot of fun getting to eat all that food!

We've got the DxDP booked for December. We had the free DDP promotion but we felt that it was worth it to upgrade because we'll be having signature 2 credit dinners every night.

I'm traveling with DM and she did not want any dining plan but when I asked her where she wants to eat she was naming all of the signature restaurants.

We'll be doing breakfast or early lunch and then dinner. We plan to save our snack credits for goodies to take home. I know that some people will use the DxDP for 3 meals a day but that seems like way too much food. For us the DxDP was a value because it matches the way we want to dine.

For us it was just WAY too much food. We didn't even eat half of it. It was just a ton. But we did not do any signature meals, in retrospect, that is what I would have done. And planning around reservation times 3 times a day with a 1 year old and 4 year old was just not fun.

We've done both dining plans. If you plan on doing any signature places, it is definitely worth it. We actually like it for the convience of not having to worry about paying for the food since it was done in advance. It would depend on the ages of any children. When mine were smaller, it wasn't worth it. Now that they are teenagers, they eat more.

We had the DXDP last trip and will have it again in March. We love it and it saved us over $1000. We do 3 TS meals a day and only had 1 signature meal last time. We are adding 2 more signature meals next trip but we are still doing 3 TS meals a day. For our family, it worked out great and it was not that much food. We never felt gorged or stuffed and we never left tons of food on our plates to waste. I think it all comes down to your family's ordering and eating styles. For us it works but I could see how it would not work for others.

We did the DxDP this past June. We planned for a breakfast/lunch and a 2TS dinner on most days. I would definitely recommend doing that option. On the DxDP each person gets 3 meals/day. They could be TS or CS meals. We only scheduled TS meals during our trip. Here's how we did our 4-days of DxDP:

Day 1: Late breakfast at Boma (1TS/person) and Dinner at Jijo (2TS/person). Both in AKL.

Day 2: Breakfast at Tusker House in AK (1TS/person); and Dinner at Brown Derby in DHS (2TS/person).

Day 3: Lunch Princess Storybook dining at Restaurant Arkeshus in Epcot (1TS/person); and Dinner at Le Cellier in Epcot (1TS/person).

Day 4: Early Breakfast at Chef Mickey's in the CR (1TS/person); Lunch at Crystal Palace in MK (1TS/person); and later Dinner at Cinderella's Royal Table in MK (2TS/person).

We used the snack credits on Mickey bars for ourselves and for treats we could bring back home. It was very nice to get the refillable mugs for use at the resort and to bring back home as souveniers too. :thumbsup2

How much does it cost to upgrade from DDP to DxDP? We've got the free dining. We arrive at 9:30 a.m on checkin day and our flight doesn't leave until 8:00 pm on checkout day, so basically our credits will be used up by the last day, so we'll be paying out of pocket. I'm thinking it might be a good deal to upgrade to deluxe. Plus we want to do hoop de doo, which takes 2....

^^^ Call WDW and ask them how much more it would be to upgrade your dining experience. Hope you have a great trip.:goodvibes
