DDP gone BAD

OH MY! I would speak up.. I wouldnt pay that but somebody pls tell me that they wont do that for a party of two will they? I already budgeted $15 per TS meal (3) we are only going to Ohanas, Coral Reef and San Angel.

dnzykay, I am sorry to hear that you received such terrible service. In both of those cases, I would have asked for a manager and let them know that you will not be paying 18% for a service you did not recieve. If they argue, ask them if they would go into a salon and pay $125 for a cut and color when all they recieved was the cut.

I would write a very well though-out and nicely written letter to WDW Communications and share those experiences with them. Disney needs to know what kind of service their CMs are providing when they know the tip is being made mandatory. That is not acceptable.

No they will not. The auto gratuity is for parties of 6 or more.

We just recently returned from an eleven night trip. Our service this trip was some of, if not the worst service we have ever had. NO WAY will I EVER tip 18% for the kind of service I got. (Obviously, if we are 6 or more, we have no choice, but there were only 3.) I thought one of the ideas behind removing the gratuity was to help service. Well, it didn't. And furthermore, I HATE the "suggested" tip lines. I just took the pin and wrote "Cash Tip" and then signed the slip. It was just awful and Disney needs to do something about this.

You know, it is really rude and quite tasteless for you ppl to assume that every person who posts a negative as their first post as a troll.

Real people that are not Dis addicted or die-hard Disney fans do have bad experiences while visiting WDW just like us veterans. The OP could also be a lurker and just wants to share some information or vent some frustration.

Also, before you start calling people names, be sure to look up what it means in the dictionary. I surely doubt the OP lives in a cave in Scandanavia or is doing any sort of fishing. ;)

I don't believe this is the case either. If it were, Disney would not keep changing the plan to continously add to their bottom line. Why would they need to make more money of they were giving people less food. :confused3

Like it or not when you choose to eat a TS meal at WDW or buy the DP/agree to have it for "free" you've entered into a contract with Disney. Part of that contract is for parties of 6 or more 18% gratuity is paid to the server. So if you think the service you're receiving isn't worthy of a "full" tip then you need to speak to a manager during the meal to get either "adjusted service" or "compensation". Simply adjusting your cash tip is "violating" the contract. You need "agreement" on both sides before doing that. In effect you walked out w/o paying your bill. You believe you had justification, but in its simplest terms that's what happened; sorry if that seems harsh. Keep in mind gratuity IS NOT optional for parties of 6 or more.

Sitting as a party of less than 6 or keeping to CS meals at WDW are ways to avoid this "contract" in the future. For my vacation time I'd book the table for my family even if we're 6 or more. If things are really bad I'd say something to the manager in hopes of getting improvement, not compensation. If that doesn't happen then the manager will need to make it right for us and deal with the server later.

We are a party of 6 going in Nov. 2008.

We hope there are no issues witht he dining plan and bad servers while we are there.

We have no problem tipping the required amount, but only if they earn it.

The servers that are the best are the ones that see your glass half empty and they bring you another one before you ask!

My husband will not be afraid to speak up about the service for all six of us; he was in the food industry at one time as a cook and he has many pet peeves about service and the food.

But if he recieves good/great service, he will reward accordingly.

lets hope this was just a new/inexperienced server(s)

We are going to WDW 8-24/8-31. We will be traveling with my parents. We have booked all our dinning reservation together, which makes us a party of 6. Does this mean they will lump our bill all together and then add the 18% or will they just add 18% to our family of 4 and my parents bill too?:confused3

If there are 6 people at your table you'll be charged an automatic 18% gratutity at WDW. Even if 2 of the 6 are sleeping infants. Even if you split the bill 3 ways, each bill will have an 18% gratutity.

Many on these boards seemed rather paranoid about this new policy at WDW. However, this is a pretty std practice at restaurants, just check the menus. For some its 6 for others it is 8, but an 18-20% auto tip for groups isn't odd.

Some of us will get good service, others better service and sadly some poor service. However, if its poor, just involve a manager early to get things resolved.

Tipping threads here on the Restaurant Boards have consistantly turned into debate threads with lots of arguments. They all tend to get closed in the end once they cross the line.

Please direct questions to the Tipping thread. The thread guidelines are in the first post
