Fiance and I are going to be going in September 2012 for our honeymoon. We are checking in the 2 and leaving the 8th. We currently are staying at CSR and having the DDP on our package. We booked through AAA so we have the room discount right now. Fiance and I are not picky eaters, but simple eaters. Don't like things to be fancy, just good. I am beginning to wonder whether it is worth it for us to have the dining plan or not. Most likely we would be drinking with lunch and dinner, so there would always be alittle OOP already during our meals. We don't plan on doing things like Cali grill, so are the prices of the restaurants we would go to worth the Dining plan, or just paying everything OOP? We are thinking of the "middle range" restaurant, and like places like Planet Hollywood and ESPN restaurant.

for the DDP to pay off you need to really plan your table service meals. If you'd rather eat apps and skip the desserts I think you'll be losing money on this plan. In addition think about if you are breakfast and counter service eaters.
We did DDP in jan and it wasn't worth it for us. DH likes salads (not included), and doesn't care for desserts. In addition we always drink water, which over the course of the week adds up to a tiny loss in the plan. Also DH loves a big breakfast so we ended up paying OOP for him on that, while I used snack credits for my quick bagel or yogart. I think you lose money on breakfast if you eat at the resort quick service. Using your TS for a buffet, or sit down, is a better deal if you do not want a TS for your evening meal. Another point is the counter service meals. Do you and future DH like a lot of burgers, fries, and wraps? My DH doesn't mind them but after 3 or 4 days even he was saying enough! I personally can only eat so many chicken sandwhiches, wraps, and fries, I am usually good for about a month after one fast food meal, so this too did not really fit us. The best way to decide is to really read/research the best ways to use your credits, think about what you like/dislike, and how you eat. For my family the DxDP is the best deal- DH gets his breakfasts, I get my evening table service (lots of sigs) and we use snacks for lunch DD's favorite ;) Each family is different for what is best for them. Good luck with your planning and upcoming wedding:goodvibes

I suggest looking through the menus of some places you are planning on going. Add up what might be "typical" for you to order. Then just compare the numbers. You might come out ahead or you might be spending more by donig the DDP.

Personally, I find paying out of pocket to be much better when it is just a couple of adults. A lot of times I will forego the huge dinner and eat at places like Planet Hollywood and ESPN. That way I might just eat a sandwich or get an appetizer and have a few beers. I don't like be locked into buying huge meals and paying upfront.

Oh by the way. We really like CSR. My son thinks the Pepper Market is awesome.

Thanks for all your advice. We arent huge dessert eatters, and the appetizer not being on the plan is one big reason why I am thinking we might be better paying out of pocket. If we go out to eat, we usually would get an app and not a dessert. Neither one of us eats breakfast, and if we do its something quick and simple. We plan on bringing breakfast foods since we are driving. Maybe once the trip we would do a big breakfast, just because. The only thing really keeping me on it is the possibility of the free dining that typically gets offered around the time we are going. I originally thought the DxDP, but there is no way we would possibly eat that much, and probably wouldn't be doing a lot of the signature meals. Part of what drew us to it was not having to worry too much about having spending cash with us. We would just need it for gas, merchandise, and drinks.

That is how I like to eat! I am a drink and app type girl. Fiance would do drink, app, and meal! I wish it was an app instead of dessert on the plan. The free dining is what is keeping me around though.

Good idea! I have narrowed down the places I know we would like things on the menu, I guess its not time to look at prices.

If its free, then it may help you save money, and you won't feel bad if you lose credits. As far as the spending money is concerned, remember you can use your KTTW card to pay for everything by leaving a credit card attached to to your room. You can easily check your balance daily to help keep up with your spending.

The only thing with this is that if we use the free dining, we lose the room discount from AAA. We are going to be doing a Disney registry along with a small department store registry, so I have a good feel we will get plenty for our honeymoon. My family is super excited for our trip. One question, if the credit card is attached to the room, do you HAVE to pay with that at the end of the week? Or could I used my gift card from my Disney wedding registry to pay some or all of the balance?
