I am planning on having the R N Y version of the bypass done in May and hope to go to WDW in July. ARe there reduced prices on the DDP after the surgery? I did a search on here for it but only came up with a few threads that are almost 6 months old. Any light shed on this would be most helpful

TIA,

Grumpy

I have also posted this on the DISabilities board

As far as I've read, no. There aren't any reduced prices for the Dining Plan, except for children 3 - 9 years old. You'd almost surely be better off paying OOP instead of purchasing the Dining Plan.

Thats kind of what I thought, but i may still call WDW just to see if they will do it. Thanks for the quick and useful info as always Bicker

Would it be cheaper for you to pay OOP and just order appetizers as your meal?

Good luck with your surgery!!!:goodvibes :goodvibes :goodvibes

Best of luck with your surgery!!!

I agree that it will be MUCH cheaper to pay OOP, as you will get filled up rather quickly. Have a great trip!

I wouldn't think so. After all, they charge full price for 10 year olds that still order off the children's menu and eat like birds.

First of all, best of luck on your surgery, and speedy recovery :goodvibes

The only thing I've seen written on any board about gastric bypass and Disney Dining was from a couple that had both had the surgery, and they got laminated cards from their doctor saying they had a medical necessity to eat smaller meals. I don't think they were necessarily on the DDP, they just wanted to make sure there would be no problems for them to share meals -- but it sounds like it was a totally unnecessary precaution, since everyone is reporting they are having no problems when they ask to share.

I agree with the others here, you'd probably do better without the DDP, unless you have other members in your group who really want it and would benefit. Then you could just order, eat what you want from your meal, and let the others in your group have the rest.

NOT DISNEY but Old Country Buffet says:
I am on a restricted diet that only allows me to eat very small portions. Can you offer a discount?

A. This question arises occasionally, including from guests that have recently had surgery. It is important to understand that our pricing is based on a reasonably sized "meal," not a specific "quantity of food" or an "unlimited" amount. Individual guests have widely differing perspectives on what they feel is an appropriate meal size. We serve more than 150 million guests per year and each one has unique menu expectations and health requirements. For simplicity sake, we adopted a uniform pricing approach when the company was formed over 20 years ago and this has become a hallmark of our business.

Disney doesn't charge extra when guests make multiple trips through the buffet line. There isn't any logical reason to offer a discount when a guest doesn't eat much, for any reason.

Some gastric bypass guests were allowed to pay the kids price. The dining plan probably doesn't make any sense unless it's free or your family is large enough to ensure that your family is getting a good deal even though one guest isn't getting "their monies worth".

I had the lap band surgery and have gotten the DDP twice in the past. I honestly didnt need it and had it not been free I wouldnt have taken it on my Sept trip. I always order from the kids meal anyway so I didnt get my moneys worth the first time around. I am going with a group of big eaters this sept and they really want to do it but I dont know that I will be able to since we have room only ressies.

My point is, for the $40 per day it costs per person you could have paid $4.99 for a kids meal or appetizer or shared with someone else. JMO

I went to WDW last March and was 6 months post-op from having the gastric bypass. I was paying OOP for meals and ended up ordering off the kids menu because everything was so expensive compared to how much I could eat. I got real tired of the choices off the kids menu and felt like I was missing out on what I really wanted.

For our trip in May this year I got the DDP for my husband and I so I can try all the great food WDW has to offer and not obsess about price even though I can eat a little amount. To me it is worth the money to have the freedom to eat what I want especially since it is quality over quantity these days.

That being said I do not think there is any kind of discount you can get but to me it is still worth it at full price. :thumbsup2

It is challenging going to the world after surgery because so much revolves around yummy food and knowing that you can only eat a couple bites is hard. I can't eat ice cream to this day but I still buy a mickey bar :mickeybar and eat a tiny bite and give the rest to someone with me and that bite is so much better than before.

I wish you great luck with your surgery! Anyone who says its the easy way out has no idea. It has been a struggle everyday for the last 18 months for me but I have lost 130lbs and would do it again in a heartbeat.

Sorry to get off topic of your question...if you have any questions about the surgery; feel free to PM me.

Hey everyone - I'm having gastric bypass on Monday!
I was looking for info on the DDE card I hear about all the time and your thread caught my eye.
If you find they'll give you a discount, let me know!
I was wondering about the buffets. Most of the character meals are buffets (are there any that aren't?) and I don't want to deprive my better half of the character meals, but don't want to pay $20 to $30 to not eat.
Will they let people in who do not eat?
I'm still looking for the DDE info. If anyone wants to point me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it.

At character meals, your money is going to pay for the entertainment and interaction and not the food, per se. It would be nice if restaurants could weigh you coming in and weigh you as you leave and charge based on net meal gain... but alas, that is not the case.

Have a great trip! And good luck on your surgery!

The DDE card is available to Florida residents and AP holders. It is good for 20% off meals and beverages at most TS restaurants in the parks and resorts. It is also valid at a couple of the lounges in the resorts. It is good currently at the counter service places in AK since there is no TS restaurant there. No one knows what will happen when the new Asia one opens later this year.
The phone number for DDE is: (407)566-5858
