DDP, and skipped courses

The last time we were on the DDP, some of us just did not want dessert. More than once when we got the bill there would be a dessert charged for each person. This really bothered me, especially when figuring out the tip.

Last time we were on the dining plan, was late 2008. Does this still happen?

My husband thought this had something to do with their computers, when ringing in dining plan patrons. Anyone have some insight?

When you are on the dining plan and use a credit it is for the whole credit, not just what you order.

Meaning if you are at a CS place and use a CS credit but don't take a dessert, you lose out on that dessert.
You have to use it then or lose it.

(the only place CS that you can get your entree and your dessert later is POP Century. As you check out you can have the cashier mark your receipt and you can return within 90mins to the sundae station and get something there.)

So on the DDP you get 1snack, 1CS, 1TS credit. The CS and TS credits are for the whole meal: entree, dessert and non alcoholic drink. If you don't use any portion of it you lose out.

If you find that you are not eating dessert or don't want it then maybe the DDP isn't for you. It is only economical when you eat like the plan is designed.

An item that you opt to not have should not be added onto the bill. You do not have to tip for something that was not served to you and you do not have to have a dessert if you do not want it. As the PP stated if you don't want it you lose it.

We have been lucky and have been able to go during free dining promotions, so never stress if we do not eat all that has been alloted to us.
I just didn't understand why if we opted out of items, why there were still charges as if we did order/eat them. I only remember this happening at TS meals, not QS.

Just looking to see if this still happens, that way I can keep a look out for it on our upcoming trip.

I have never heard anyone say that they had an item that they didn't order added to their bill (not as a standard practice which seems like what you are saying). Of course, it doesn't matter from the DDP credit standpoint, but does from the tip standpoint. But I just never heard anyone mention that happening before. Seems a little crazy - there are many choices for desserts at the TS restaurants, how would they even know what to put on your bill?

As a former sever I will bet one of two things happened.

1. The system required the server to ring in a dessert even though you didn't order it when using the dining plan.

2. The server rang in the dessert, but didn't bring it so they would get a bigger tip. (would be benificial on parties of six or more)

Next time I would ask the manager.

It should never have happened and is not a standard practice. They ring in your order just the same as if you were paying OOP for it. The DDP does not come into play until it's time to pay. I would guess that you were scammed to get a better tip.

Having the dessert added on to the meal's bill when we didn't order it on the regular DDP has happened to us at Tutto Italia. My DD who's meal it was has an allergy and she can't eat any of the desserts. The only thing she could have was just some fresh fruit, but she decided she didn't want that and just declined to order dessert since we've done this before and she didn't care for the fruit. They added it onto the bill anyway, at a whopping $14. I just subracted it from the bill and tipped on the remaining balance.

I can see this happening at the non-WDW owned places like Tutto because they just get a standard reimbursement from WDW for a meal but it shouldn't happen at WDW owned places. We had some trouble with places wanting to give me bottled water at about 6.95 when I just wanted tap water to pad the bill but I make sure they don't do that because I often order coffee with dessert.

We went in 2008 with the basic DDP and tip was not included. I believe the last time tip was included was in 2007.

That shouldn't happen. I was a server at WDW and if we rang in a dessert, a ticket would go straight to the chef who would make the dessert.
If it happens again, tell a manager because it shouldn't be added if you didn't order it.

Sounds like someone was trying to increase their tip. We will have the deluxe plan during our next. We will order the same way we do with or without the plan. We base our order on what we want, not on what is included in the plan. I will only tip based on the items we order.

That is odd though... I'd say something to the waiter or the manager.

In Dec. 2010, all our receipts showed exactly what we ordered and the price. Even the fantasmic dinner at Brown Derby - it showed the fantasmic dinner package price.

I can't imagine a waiter adding desserts to pad the tip... or maybe even to get your dessert and give it to another table complimentary (to help that tip!) I'm sure it could happen but worth the risk of getting into trouble?

I think it was an honest mistake. Just point it out to your server and it will be corrected.

I opt not to order dessert sometimes with the deluxe dining plan and I have never had it added to our bill anyway. I would just say something or just tip based on the amount minus the dessert .
