DDE cardholders .... do you recommend?

Considering getting the DDE card to use for May 05 and Jan 06 trips . .. is it easy to use? Is it accepted for character meals?

Also - - if we do it, I want to get the AP rate of $50, but won't actually have the AP until we arrive on May 6th and can exchange our MYW tix already purchased. How might that work?? Can I purchase the DDE card when I get there, too?

Assuming you are staying onsite? May 6 is a Friday. Your first stop should be guest services to exchange your ticket for an AP. DDE cards are not issued on site. Once you have your AP, call the DDE phone number and order your card (they will need code from back of AP), they will fax a confirmation to your WDW resort that you can use while you are there.

DDE is very easy to use, just present it to your server when they bring the check. The server will amend your check to reflect the discount. It is accepted at almost all restaurants, DDE will give you a list where it is accepted.

Yes you can use it for character meals. I have used mine at Crystal Palace for lunch and dinner and at Chef Mickey's for dinner (as well as many other places)

You will need your AP in order to get it. The DDE people will ask for your #'s off of your AP.

DDE is only open Mon-Fri 9-5 so keep that in mind.

Another thing is that DDE is only for AP holders and FL residents.

I had to call DDE on our way to Orlando because I stupidly forgot the email from Rosa. She kindly faxed it to the Yacht Club desk for me. Be advised though, she told me that they close at 5PM, aren't open late like CR. Try calling or emailing DDE (Rosa) and see wht she says about this dilemma.

Here's a reminder for early May DDE users. On Sunday May 8th, there are no discounts allowed that day. It's Mother's Day and that is a discount blackout day. I was working on my PS plans for April 29-May 14th and mid-way through I remembered the blackout day. I had to choose which restraurant I was willing to pay full price for and move the more expensive ones to other days. Even though it's a blackout day, I have used our discount on that day at foodcourts. Just not sit down restraurants.

Guest services locations for purchasing APs is either at a park or Downtown Disney. Resorts do not process APs. Since you're staying at OKW, you can take the ferry to DtD and get your AP there. Guests services is located next to the new toy store, near the restrooms.

Thank you, Chuck! That works out perfectly, since we were planning to spend our first afternoon at DTD anyway. It sounds like this little bump in our plans is going to not be such a bump after all.
