DDE Card....when should I order it?

I am the only one with an AP -- my husband does not have one. Does it make sense for me to order a second card for him to use in the event that we split up, since he does not have the AP to show when he uses it?

I don't believe you have to have an AP to use it. You may be asked to show your ID to indicate that you are the person whose name is on the card.

I ordered one for my hubby last week when I placed the order for mine and he doesn't have an AP. I'd rather have ordered it for my 22 year old daughter who is still in college, but was told you could only order the second card for a spouse. It's not like he'll be going to WDW without me.

Wonderful! I have been reading so much about the DDE -- I thought I had read somewhere that you needed to show the AP when using it. I guess I got my wires crossed...thanks for the info!

For our March trip I waite until March 1 to order because I wanted the expiration date to be in April. That is exactly what i got...April 30, 2006 expiration

Do you think that if I waited for May 1st, the expiration would be June 30th then?

Yes. I ordered mine this morning and the card won't expire until May 31, 2006.

Just ordered my card. The CM told me that I would get an email before the end of business today. She also said that it would take 8 weeks to get the card. My trip is 8 weeks away, so we'll see!

Edited to add: I ordered the card at about 10:05 am. I got the email at 10:10 am!!!!! How's that for quick service???? (My membership is valid through 5/31/06.)

We are planning on going with my parents in June of 2006 so that way we will get at least two trips out of it. We definitely want the DDE card. Will it be too late to order one if I wait until about 3 weeks before our July 2005 trip?

I hope that makes sense - it kind of confuses me when I read over it.

No, it won't be too late. You'll get an email from DDE after you ordered the card... just bring the email with you when you go to WDW and you'll get 20% at the participating restaurants.

The email letter works fine if you don't get the card, though it does take servers a couple of minutes to figure out what it is. Keep track of it, though! I had a waitress accidentally drop it. It got lost and the manager came over to ask if we'd gotten it back yet (I think he was worried we'd be mad) which we hadn't. I got it back, but taped back up on another piece of paper with a big foot print in the middle! The poor waitress said she'd dropped it, and it had gotten ripped up and thrown out so someone on the staff WENT THROUGH THE GARBAGE to find it. I felt so bad for her! It was pretty funny to present this thing to people for the rest of the trip.

The moral here is make a copy of the email if you don't get your card in time and bring it with you, just in case!

I ordered mine at around 9:15am this morning and got the email at 9:35am. Yes, they close at 5pm.
