DIS Dads DDC XXXIV: The Original Home Of The DISDads!!!

Dads of the DIS talk about life, bacon, Disney, bacon, kids, bacon, cars, bacon, family life, and lots of other fun stuff! And beer. And bacon.
I finally got my transfer! I just got my abbreviated training schedule. Only two days, I know, stop screwing around and get back to work! One closing shift, one opening shift then they are tossing me in there. lol.
I’m looking forward to not walking ten miles per shift. On concrete. Uphill. Both ways. (Yes, it is uphill both ways). I also get to ditch the costume that is made out of recycled plastic water bottles, feels as good as it sounds. lol.

I'm gonna say congratulations, even though I have no idea what exactly you're talking about...
You sound happy, so good enough for me!

Congrats on the new position!

Two days training is better than we usually get. A wise former employee once told me that if you want to learn how to do something here, nobody has any time to train you. So you just dive in and do it spectacularly wrong, because everyone has time to come over and say, "You idiot! You're supposed to do it like this!"

And that's how you learn.

I disagree.
People are always coming up to me and saying, “You idiot! You're supposed to do it like this!" and I still don’t learn. I’m sure it’s them, not me though.

Very cool.
What position did you get moved to (or is that classified)?

Two days training is better then I've generally gotten for a new assignment. Usually I've been subjected to the "Cesspool Method".
As the theory goes:
Explain swimming to someone and that might learn 'em to swim
Demonstrate swimming to someone and they will likely figure it out
Throw someone in the water and they will either learn to swim or have to be saved
Throw them in a cesspool, and they'll learn to swim very rapidly... or no longer be your problem

Sounds about right.
Thats why you see 4-5 old guys on a job site and a rotating cast of dozens of young guys. The old guy learned it the hard way and doesn't feel the need to teach the new kid. A few pick it up and become the old guy eventually.

Oh Lord….
I’ve done so much training of new people over the years. I told them I was done. Someone else can do it. I can’t even count how many I’ve done.
Each trainee takes 9-10 months. Exhausting.

Seems like we spend a couple years training new employees just to watch them take those skills somewhere else. Then we start all over again with somebody new.

Luckily, most of our trainees stay for a while. Almost all stay with the company.
I had a VP whos favorite quote was "What if we pay to train them and they leave, well what happens if we don't and the stay?"
Excellent point. ::yes::

Morning, Gents! Hope all are well today. Just wanted to pop into say hey and to see how everything's going. It has been a while since I've been in, but I have an update at work: I now have a new position. As this is kind of a new position, the exact title has yet to be decided. However, I'll either be a Surgical Coordinator, or Surgical Scheduler. I say, "Kind of a new position" because parts of the original job have been pulled and given to other people, and new parts added. Basically at the end of the day I'll be an assistant to the practice manager, which can help me in the future for possible promotions. The exact start date has yet to be determined. The practice manager needs to find out a few things from HR first before I can start officially. I am taking a just over 2 week vacation in 3 weeks, so I suspect I'll be starting after that. I am taking a bit of a pay cut for this job, but the benefits in the long run will out weigh the pay cut. So I'm happy and can't wait to begin.

Hey,hey. Just got done working eight in a row. Yes, you heard that correctly. I’m all moved into my new area and I have to admit, when the real feel is over 100 degrees, the air conditioning is nice. I like my new location, just getting to know everyone. Along with finding the break rooms and the restrooms. lol. Sounds simple but it’s not as easy as you would think. I’m off until Thursday. I work Thursday night than I’m off two more. Two weeks later starts our week in a Copper Creek cabin.
We also had the house painted this past week. We are very pleased with the outcome. Now I have all kinds of work to do around the house. Lol

Morning, everyone!

Just a quick stop by to say hey! Again, I seemed to have stayed away for a while, but it seems like I'm not the only one. What happened to everyone? Maybe I could....(starts to sneak up to one of the chairs closer to the TV and reaches for the TV remote) :teeth:

Bit a snag on the new job. For whatever reason, the higher ups have decided that before they officially offer me the job and bring me on, they want to try and test run with a temp. This doesn't make sense to me because the job needs to be filled regardless, but ok. Not sure why, but that's where I'm at with the job. I did ask my manager what's keeping the higher ups form offering the job to the temp when the test run is over? Her response was that the temp is in med school and will be heading back to school in 2 months. I swear, if this jobs goes to someone else I'll start looking for another job. I've seen this play out before and I'm not going to get hosed. I trust my manager, and she really likes me and wants me in that location permanently, so I'm willing to give it time. We'll see.

Congrats! You’ve been working hard for this

Thanks, so looking forward to beginning.

Nice way to start. :)

Wish I was starting right after vacation, but still nice to get a 2 week staycation.

Eight in a row... aka: my usual run.
Sounds like you're settling in okay, though. I think?

But... What's your new role? Where are you working?

Again, I seemed to have stayed away for a while, but it seems like I'm not the only one. What happened to everyone?
This place used to be hopping. Now... not so much.

Um... what the actual F?

Yeah... this smacks of nepotism. I wouldn't be too thrilled about that, either.

Couldn't have said it better, myself!

Good luck on your current situation. I love when the games start getting played. I was lucky, I worked for family owned businesses till I retired. Now I sit in break rooms with more people than as many as the company I worked for employed. lol.
I’m still a sales coordinator, I just moved further into the park. I was in an area that covered mobility, mobility means pushing scooters in the heat and work outside most of the day. I inquired about transferring to a resort. More laid back. My leadership said give it some time, they have something coming up, don’t leave.
A few weeks later, I interviewed and transferred into a few smaller stores, all in the A/C. I came to the realization I’m not 24 years old anymore. lol.
Same leadership, just a little deeper into the park. They also wanted me to enter the leadership program. I respectfully declined. I’m retired, I really enjoy what I do and why spoil it with management. lol. If I was 30 years younger I would go for it but, I feel give the younger people a shot, let they grow in a career they love. I’m guessing I won’t be working another ten years much less five. Why put all that time into an old geezer. lol.

See above. lol. This site and my IPad aren’t getting along today. lol.

I think most of just lurk here

Hope it works out for you, getting jerked around by leadership sucks.

Yeah, my body remind me of that everytime I try to show up the young guys at work.
